Job description

SENIOR STAFF ATTORNEY

Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center

El Paso, TX

Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center is hiring a Senior Staff Attorney to champion justice for immigrants facing removal by bridging sophisticated litigation with comprehensive, human-centered client support.

Las Americas is a nationally-recognized organization that provides high-quality legal services, advocacy, and support to detained and non-detained individuals in El Paso, Texas, and southern New Mexico.
Since 1987, we have represented over 50,000 individuals while advocating for systemic change and policy reform through impact litigation.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Litigation & Advocacy: Manage a full caseload in removal defense including complex motion drafting, trial preparation, and appellate work before the Immigration Court and BIA.

Holistic Client Care: Partner with social workers and legal assistants to provide wrap-around legal services, including critical family planning and trauma-informed support.

Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and review the work of legal assistants, paralegals, interns, and pro-bono attorneys.


REQUIREMENTS

Education/Bar: Juris Doctorate (JD) with active membership in good standing of any state bar.

Experience: 3+ years in immigration law with a strong track record in removal defense.

Skills and Values: Strong communication, organizational, and case management skills under pressure; deep commitment to social justice and immigrant rights.

Language: Professional fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Location: Must work locally out of the El Paso, TX office.


SALARY AND BENEFITS

$68,000 (commensurate with experience); health insurance with employer contributions; flexible/hybrid schedule; and generous PTO.
