West Michigan Aviation Academy is currently seeking a Full Time Custodian - 2nd Shift
WMAA is an innovative, academically rigorous charter high school with a focus on hands-on aviation and STEM education. Through implementation of our mission, vision, and values , WMAA provides a unique educational opportunity for students to focus on high-growth employment fields during their high school education.
WMAA places intense emphasis on real-life, hands-on projects that incorporate multidisciplinary learning, design thinking, and many more business-level skill sets. Our students enjoy opportunities for business internships, mentorships and job shadows that help them explore career opportunities while still in high school.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team. The ideal candidate will maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for our facilities, ensuring that all areas are well-kept and presentable. This position plays a crucial role in supporting our school's mission by promoting a healthy and inviting atmosphere for both staff and students.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
  • Responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, and safety of assigned buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors.
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, countertops, and windows.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables.
  • Restock supplies in restrooms and break rooms as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify cleaning needs and report maintenance issues to management.
  • Follow established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of meeting rooms, events, and special functions as required.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Cognitive Demands:
  • Have knowledge of and practice safe cleaning and maintenance practices
  • Be able to perform routine cleaning and minor repairs
  • Be able to occasionally supervise students

Physical Demands:
  • Able to operate cleaning equipment safely
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds
    • (when applicable, a back-belt should be worn when lifting heavy objects)
  • Stand or walk for the majority of a day
  • Reach, lift, push, pull, talk or hear frequently
  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
  • Withstand a moderate noise level
  • Withstand exposure to cleaning chemicals on a routine basis

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others
