Internship Async information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Coordinator (Async), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Coordinator managing asynchronous programs, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of educational or workforce development practices, and typically a relevant degree in education, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), virtual communication platforms, and project management tools is essential. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to motivate and support students remotely are standout soft skills. These capabilities ensure effective coordination, participant engagement, and successful outcomes in a flexible, remote internship environment.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can I expect during an Internship Async position, and how is remote collaboration typically managed?

In an Internship Async role, you'll usually work on projects that are designed to be completed independently, such as coding tasks, research assignments, or content creation, depending on the organization's focus. Communication and collaboration are primarily handled through asynchronous tools like email, project management platforms, and shared documents, allowing you to contribute according to your schedule. Regular check-ins are common, but you'll need strong self-motivation and organization skills to manage your workload and meet deadlines. This setup provides valuable experience in remote work environments and can help you build skills in time management and digital communication.

What are Internship Async positions?

Internship Async positions are internship opportunities that are completed asynchronously, meaning interns can work on their tasks and projects at their own pace and schedule rather than following a strict, real-time work schedule. These internships are typically remote and leverage online tools for communication, collaboration, and submission of work. They are ideal for students or individuals who require flexibility due to school, part-time jobs, or other commitments. Async internships often focus on deliverables and outcomes rather than hours worked, and communication with supervisors usually occurs through scheduled updates or written feedback rather than live meetings.

What is the difference between Internship Async vs Software Developer?

AspectInternship AsyncSoftware Developer
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate in CS or related fieldBachelor's or higher in CS or related field, often with experience
Work EnvironmentTemporary, learning-focused, often remote or flexibleFull-time, professional setting, often in-office or remote
Employer & Industry UsageInternships offered by tech companies, startups, and organizations for trainingFull-time roles in tech, software firms, and related industries

Internship Async is a temporary, learning-focused position aimed at students or recent graduates, whereas a Software Developer is a full-time professional role requiring more experience and responsibility. Internships serve as entry points into the industry, while Software Developers work on ongoing projects and product development.

Overview of Job/Team:

We are looking for a Cloud Operations Intern to join our DevOps / Cloud Operations team for the summer. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the systems and tooling that power SpyCloud's cloud infrastructure, with a focus on monitoring, alerting, and observability.

You will work closely with experienced engineers to improve visibility into system performance, enhance alert quality, and contribute to automation efforts. This is a highly collaborative environment where async work is common, and interns are paired directly with engineers to learn, build, and deliver meaningful improvements to production systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist with alert tuning to improve signal-to-noise ratio and reduce alert fatigue
  • Build and enhance dashboards to provide clear visibility into system health and performance
  • Contribute to automation efforts using infrastructure-as-code and scripting
  • Work with tools such as AWS CloudWatch, New Relic, PagerDuty, Spacelift, and Terraform
  • Partner with engineers on ongoing projects and improvements
  • Participate in collaborative problem-solving and learning opportunities within the team
  • Document processes, dashboards, and improvements for broader team use

Requirements:

  • Educational Background:
    • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Experience:
    • Experience through coursework, academic projects, or prior internships working with cloud technologies or infrastructure
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Familiarity with Python or Bash
    • Working knowledge of Linux systems
    • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
    • Exposure to infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
    • Ability to learn quickly and apply new concepts in a technical environment
    • Clear communication skills and willingness to collaborate in a team setting
    • Ability to work effectively in an async, distributed team environment
  • Work Environment:
    • Hybrid work environment based in Austin, TX with in-office collaboration and remote flexibility
    • No on-call responsibilities; focused on learning, support, and project-based contributions

Nice to Have:

  • Experience using monitoring, observability, or alerting tools (e.g., CloudWatch, NewRelic, Grafana, etc.)
  • Academic or personal projects leveraging infrastructure as code
  • Familiarity with incident management concepts or tooling (e.g., PagerDuty)
Why SpyCloud?
  • Hands-on experience - No busy work here! You'll contribute to real projects that matter.
  • Support & mentorship - You'll be paired with mentors and have access to the brightest minds on Team SpyCloud
  • Networking & exposure - Engage with leadership, cross-functional teams, and fellow interns.
  • A collaborative, high-energy culture - Work in a dynamic startup environment that values innovation and impact.
