Job description

Instructors apply the Student-Centered Active Education model to teach, inspire, motivate, guide, and support students in their assigned courses and programs. Instructors are expected to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and lifelong learning, including participating in regular faculty and professional development activities to advance the practice of teaching and learning at SAE.
Math Adjunct Instructor Key Relationships

Math Adjunct Instructor Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach classes as assigned in accordance with all SAE policies and procedures.
  • Deliver instruction in alignment with the Student-Centered Active Education model.
  • Establish a classroom environment conducive to learning and student engagement.
  • Contribute to a learning culture by participating in academic advising, participating in curriculum development, and supporting campus events such as workshops, new student orientation, and graduation as requested.
  • Manage the learning environment by keeping accurate attendance records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing SAE policies and procedures.
  • Effectively plan and prepare for classes and student success, including developing course activities that support lesson and course learning outcomes.
  • Contact, advise, and support absent and high-risk students and document contact activities.
  • Complete faculty development activities annually to continually improve instructional delivery, professional knowledge and skills, and support for diverse learners.
  • Maintain instructor eligibility according to applicable federal, state, and accreditation regulations.
  • Abide by all SAE policies and proceduresFor full-time instructors, supervise scheduled makeup sessions, provide tutoring and academic advising, advise student clubs, support faculty development activities, and substitute for classes in emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Math Adjunct Instructor Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
For General Education courses: A minimum of a master's degree with 18 semester credits or 24 quarter credits in the area of the course(s) assigned to teach. For example, an instructor teaching College Mathematics could have a master's degree in Environmental Science but would be qualified to teach College Mathematics if they have 18 graduate-level semester credits in Mathematics.
For program courses toward a Diploma or Associate's Degree:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree; if the bachelor's degree is not in the field that the instructor is teaching in, the instructor must also hold a credential in the field at or above the level of the program they're teaching in.
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience since the completion of the qualifying degree
  • In rare cases, an adjunct faculty member who does not hold a bachelor's degree but has extensive and significant work experience may be granted a temporary exception by the Chief Academic and Compliance Officer, with the expectation of regular demonstrated evidence of satisfactory progress toward completion of a bachelor's degree during the approved exception period.

For program courses toward a Bachelor's degree:
  • A minimum of a master's degree; if the master's degree is not in the field that the instructor is teaching in, the instructor must also hold a credential in the field at or above the level of the program they're teaching in.
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience since the completion of the qualifying degree

Math Adjunct Instructor Additional information and Physical Requirements:
This is a part time onsite, campus based, position.. Sitting and Standing for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within the organization, minimal reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
