Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Network Connectivity Services part of the Network Lifecycle Management (NLM) organization is responsible for scaling and maintaining Amazon's global network capacity. Within NLM, the Lighthouse team owns the end to end link connectivity service to plan, build and operate the AWS network.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions that support Amazon's end-to-end link lifecycle infrastructure
- Define technical direction and architect systems that improve network reliability, automation, and operational efficiency at scale
- Drive projects from concept through deployment, making independent decisions on approach, prioritization, and trade-offs
- Build and maintain highly available, distributed services that directly impact Amazon's global network operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with network engineers, systems engineers, and partner teams to identify requirements and deliver integrated solutions
- Identify opportunities to simplify, optimize, and innovate across existing systems and processes
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance
- Contribute to operational excellence by participating in on-call rotations, driving root cause analyses, and reducing operational burden through automation
A day in the life
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Lighthouse team, you'll start your day reviewing system health and operational metrics for link connectivity services. You might spend your morning designing a new API to automate network provisioning workflows, then shift to a design review with partner teams in the afternoon. You'll collaborate with network engineers to translate complex infrastructure requirements into elegant software solutions. Some days you'll deep-dive into production issues, driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes. You'll regularly mentor engineers on your team, unblocking them through pairing sessions or architecture discussions. No two days look the same-but every day directly impacts the reliability of Amazon's global network.
About the team
The NLM Connectivity Services team builds and operates software that enables Amazon's global network to scale reliably. As a senior software engineer you will be responsible for leading the design of software used in the NLM products. You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside Amazon. You will mentor a team of software engineers on best practices while you guide your software designs from requirements gathering through mass production. You will need to be flexible and responsive to high priority issues.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
