Job description

We're seeking a Packaging Designer to join the Amazon & Whole Foods Market Private Brands creative team. Reporting to the Creative Director of Package Design, you'll own and drive the development and evolution of packaging systems across both Whole Foods Market and Amazon private label brands, helping shape how customers experience our products across stores, digital channels, and multiple retail formats.
You bring deep packaging design expertise, ideally within food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods, and have a strong understanding of brand systems, food photography, production, and consumer-facing design. You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, influencing cross-functional partners, and balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You are a creative problem solver who can independently drive work from concept through production while elevating the quality of the broader team.
Based at Whole Foods Market HQ in Austin, TX, this role supports a growing portfolio of Whole Foods Market and Amazon private brands, spanning multiple categories, tiers, and customer experiences.

Key job responsibilities
Packaging Design Ownership
- Own and drive the development and evolution of packaging design systems across multiple brands, categories and product lines.
- Translate brand strategy into scalable visual systems that work across diverse product assortments and formats.
- Create compelling packaging concepts that balance customer appeal, brand consistency, and business objectives.
- Raise the creative bar through strong conceptual thinking, design craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
Brand Stewardship
- Serve as a key steward of Whole Foods Market and Amazon private brand packaging systems.
- Help define, refine, and extend brand standards across new categories, launches, and innovation programs.
- Identify opportunities to improve consistency, scalability, and customer impact across the portfolio.
Photography & Art Direction
- Art direct food and product photography, both virtually and on set.
- Partner with photographers, stylists, and creative teams to ensure imagery supports the intended brand story and packaging strategy.
- Provide clear creative direction on composition, styling, retouching, and visual storytelling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Creative Director of packaging, Product Development, Sourcing, Legal, Print Production and 3rd party agencies throughout the packaging development process.
- Influence stakeholders through strong design rationale and customer-focused decision making.
- Present creative work to senior leaders and effectively communicate design recommendations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience
- Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
- Experience managing or working within cross-functional marketing and creative teams
- Strong portfolio demonstrating packaging systems, brand development, and production expertise.
- Experience working on food, beverage, grocery, retail, or consumer packaged goods brands preferred.
- Experience presenting work to senior stakeholders and influencing creative decisions.
- Experience art directing food photography and collaborating with external creative partners preferred.
- Experience mentoring designers or driving projects across cross-functional teams preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in multi-territory campaign management
- Experience in digital marketing and content production timelines and process
- Knowledge of Adobe design programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
