Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with a platform spanning venue development and end-to-end capabilities across venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Founded in 2015, the company serves a collection of seven world-class owned venues and a client roster of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions, spanning four continents.
Position Summary
UBS Arena is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as an Arena Operations Intern for the 26-27 Islanders Season. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various facets of arena management. The selected candidate will rotate through several different departments throughout the internship, gaining exposure to the diverse functions that contribute to the successful operation of our arena. The role requires a positive attitude, as well as a team-driven and proactive mindset. Each member of the team is responsible for providing an exceptional level of service to our guests in addition to access and crowd control for the UBS Arena.
This role is expected to last from the beginning of the Islanders 2026-2027 season until the end of the season (October 1, 2026 and will end on June 1, 2027).
This role pays an hourly rate of $17.00
This position will remain open until July 3, 2026.
About the Venue
UBS Arena at Belmont Park is made for music and built for hockey. New York's newest premier entertainment and sports venue and home of the New York Islanders is developed in partnership with Oak View Group, the New York Islanders, and Jeff Wilpon. The state of the art arena opened in November 2021 and has welcomed numerous top artists including Harry Styles, Sebastian Maniscalco, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, TWICE, Eagles, John Mayer, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone. The venue delivers an unmatched live entertainment experience for guests including clear sightlines and premier acoustics.
UBS Arena is at the forefront of sustainability, being awarded LEED Green Building Certification in January 2023. The venue also achieved carbon neutrality for operations in Fall 2022 which made it the first arena to do so on the eastern United States seaboard.
Located on the historic grounds of Belmont Park, UBS Arena is located just 30 minutes by LIRR from Grand Central or Penn Station and is easily accessible from across the region via mass transit or car.
Responsibilities
  1. Administration: Provide general administrative support to various departments within the arena, including scheduling meetings, maintaining documentation, and assisting with special projects as needed.
  2. Event Operations: Assist in the planning and execution of events hosted at the arena, including concerts, sporting events, and community gatherings. Responsibilities may include coordinating logistics, liaising with vendors, and ensuring smooth event operations.
  3. Facilities Management: Gain insight into the maintenance and upkeep of arena facilities. Assist in conducting facility inspections, identifying maintenance needs, and coordinating repairs and improvements as necessary.
  4. Guest Experience: Learn about providing exceptional guest experience to internal and external arena guests. This includes management of part-time arena team members as well as guest inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience for all.
  5. Information Technology: Support our IT department in various projects and tasks, contributing to the smooth operation of technology systems and services within the arena. Assist in providing monitoring network infrastructure, routine maintenance, event coverage, and troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  6. Parking and Transportation: Learn about coordinating parking logistics, optimizing transportation services, and ensuring smooth traffic flow during events. Assist in parking management, transportation coordination, traffic control, data analytics, vendor management, and guest services.
  7. Security and Safety: Learn about maintaining a safe and secure environment for arena patrons and staff. Assist in implementing security protocols, conducting safety inspections, and coordinating emergency response procedures.
  8. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Key Learnings:
  • Integrated Event Management: gain hands-on experience in the end-to-end event life cycle, from initial planning and promotion to on-site execution, staff communication, and post-event teardown.
  • Marketing and Sales: develop and implement event marketing plans, including market research, promotions, while also learning the fundamentals of prospecting, and selling premuim seating and corporate sponsorships.
  • Guest Experience and Relationship Management: understand the importance of creating a positive guest experience and maintaining client and promoter relationships as part of the sales and event planning process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication: learn to work effectively across different departments.
  • Facility Operations and Technical Knowledge: acquired practical knowledge of facility operations and maintenance, including essential systems like HVAC, sound, lighting, and fire protection.
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: develop strong problem solving skills by adapting to a fast-paced environment and addressing logistical challenges that arise during event setup, execution, and breakdown.

Qualifications
  • Open to College juniors, and seniors seeking an internship.
  • Housing/transportation are the student's responsibility.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing and related applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Experience in a collaborative team environment.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule inclusive of nights, weekends and holidays.
