Job description

Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
As an RF RAN Systems Engineer, you will support the integration, validation, and characterization of advanced wireless communication systems. In this role, you will work across RF hardware, wireless protocols, and software-controlled test environments to help evaluate system performance, investigate issues, and improve test coverage and repeatability.
You will be a hands-on contributor working with RF bench equipment, wireless waveforms, protocol-driven validation, and system-level debugging across hardware and software interfaces. The ideal candidate has strong engineering fundamentals, familiarity with 3GPP-based wireless systems, and the ability to translate test objectives into structured execution and clear technical results.
This role is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys lab work, cross-functional problem solving, and working at the intersection of RF, communications systems, and validation engineering.
Key job responsibilities
- Execute integration and validation test plans for wireless communication hardware, subsystems, and full communication chains.
- Support characterization of RF and communication performance, including waveform quality, link behavior, interoperability, and end-to-end system metrics.
- Operate RF lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, power meters, and related instrumentation.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize engineering data for key metrics such as EVM, ACLR, RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, throughput, latency, jitter, packet loss, and related performance indicators.
- Support validation of systems using 3GPP LTE and 5G NR concepts, including familiarity with radio procedures, mobility behavior, and network elements such as gNodeB and eNodeB.
- Troubleshoot issues across RF, protocol, software, and hardware domains; contribute to structured root-cause analysis and debug closure.
- Build, configure, and maintain repeatable lab test setups, procedures, logs, fixtures, and documentation.
- Partner with RF, antenna, systems, software, and test engineers to improve system robustness, debug efficiency, and validation capability.
- Contribute to scripting, automation, or data processing workflows using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Present concise technical findings, status updates, and recommendations to cross-functional engineering teams.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
About the team
You will join a cross-functional engineering team focused on integration and validation of advanced wireless and RF communication systems. The team works closely with antenna, RF, systems, software, and test engineers to develop scalable test strategies, improve system performance, and ensure robust operation across development and validation environments. We value strong technical judgment, hands-on ownership, clear communication, and a bias for solving difficult cross-disciplinary problems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- Experience through internships, research, university laboratory work, or industry in RF systems, wireless communications, communications test, or system integration.
- Familiarity with wireless communication fundamentals, including modulation, waveforms, link behavior, noise, interference, and RF signal quality.
- Familiarity with 3GPP LTE and/or 5G NR fundamentals, including radio procedures, protocol stack concepts, and network elements such as gNodeB and eNodeB.
- Experience using RF lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, vector network analyzers, power meters, or similar instrumentation.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and presenting engineering test data.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for scripting, automation, or data analysis.
- Experience with troubleshooting technical issues methodically and communicate findings clearly in written and verbal form.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree with concentration in RF, wireless communications, signal processing, or communication systems.
- Experience with LTE and/or 5G NR system testing, device validation, protocol analysis, or interoperability testing.
- Familiarity with wireless logging and analysis tools such as Wireshark, QXDM, QCAT, tcpdump, or similar diagnostic platforms.
- Experience evaluating wireless or RF KPIs such as EVM, ACLR, RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, throughput, latency, jitter, packet loss, MOS, or handover performance.
- Familiarity with IMS, VoLTE, VoWiFi, SIP, RTP, RTCP, or related IP-based communication flows.
- Experience working in lab or field test environments involving debugging, defect tracking, and structured validation reporting.
- Familiarity with Linux command line environments and script-driven test execution.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to work effectively across RF, systems, software, and test teams.
