About this Role

FiberTel is looking for a Fleet Mechanic for our San Jose, Ca location.

The Fleetย Mechanicwill be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of company fleet vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment. TheDiesel Mechanicwill assist the Shop Manager in these duties. He/she will perform the repair of heavy equipment and vehicles while maintaining a clean and safe work area. This position will require high attention to detail and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.ย 

Pay: $30-50/hr, DOE

What You'll Do

Position Responsibilities:ย 

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair yellow-iron machinesย 
  • Perform engine repairs and maintenanceย 
  • Maintain and repair turbochargerย 
  • Perform safety inspectionsย 
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair transmission systemsย 
  • Make necessary repairs to hydraulic and air brakesย 
  • Repair and maintain HVAC systemsย 
  • Make electrical repairsย 
  • Perform oil changes as neededย 
  • Maintain a clean work area, tools, and equipmentย 
What You'll Bring

Position Qualifications:ย 

  • 3-5 years experience in Yellow-Iron mechanic work
  • Computer skills including things like word, and excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to manage a schedule and organize time
  • Willing to travel out of state (60%)
  • Experience with heavy diesel repair and maintenanceย 
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical repairsย 
  • Knowledge of fuel systems; both diesel and gasย 
  • Ability to perform electrical diagnostics using a scannerย 
  • Welding Experienceย 
  • Experience with Ford 6.7 Diesel and GM 6.6 Duramax (Preferred)ย 
  • Safety Inspection certified(Preferred)ย 
  • Management experience (Preferred)
  • Class A CDL(Highly Preferred)ย 
  • Diesel mechanic certified (Required

Working Conditions:ย 

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.ย 

Physical Requirements:ย 

The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.ย
