DescriptionProgram Director
Interventional Radiology Residency Programs
(IR-Integrated and IR-Independent)
Emory University School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Program Director for its Interventional Radiology Residency Programs - encompassing both the IR-Integrated and IR-Independent training pathways. This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the largest, most clinically rich, and most innovative IR training programs in the United States at a critical and exciting moment in its evolution.
The program encompasses 31 residents across IR-Integrated and IR-Independent pathways - training across 7 distinct clinical sites in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area with a wide clinical scope and breadth and culture of innovation. In addition to on-service training, residents and fellows receive more than 150 didactic lectures per year, cross-departmental lectures and multidisciplinary tumor boards (liver, portal hypertension, NET), are part of the Atlanta Interventional Radiology Society (AIRS) 2-3x/year and numerous international IR education partnerships, including Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Israel, Egypt, South Africa, Georgia, Armenia, Peru, and others.
What's more, the program members have access to all Radiology department tracks as well as Emory GME-wide tracks, including a Research Track with protected academic time, dedicated research course, and a capstone project, the Clinical Education Track (CET) with longitudinal educator training, practicum, and capstone, the Global Health Track imparting cultural humility, interdisciplinary teams, and global projects, an Integrated Imaging Informatics Track (I3T), a Quality Improvement & Innovation Track, Molecular Imaging in Medicine Track, Business, Leadership, and Advocacy in Radiology (BLAiR) Track, Emory GME-wide Medical Innovation Track, and the Adopt a Resident Grant. Emory IR is a sought-after destination for medical student rotations year-round, with peak volume in summer months. The program serves as a meaningful entry point into the specialty pipeline nationally.
The incoming Program Director will inherit a program with deep infrastructure, strong institutional support, a strong partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology, dedicated associate and assistant program directors, and a culture of excellence built over many years. The Program Director holds overall responsibility for the accreditation, administration, curriculum, assessment, and culture of both the IR-Integrated and IR-Independent residency programs. This is a dual-program leadership role with a fully staffed education team and a strong institutional foundation. The role carries protected administrative time supported by the School of Medicine, and a leadership team committed to a successful transition.
