Summary

The Director of Community Engagement & Communications provides strategic leadership over Carson Tahoe Health's community engagement, communications, public relations, reputation management, community benefit activities, and Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) efforts.

The Director serves as a key ambassador for Carson Tahoe Health and is responsible for strengthening community trust, enhancing organizational reputation, advancing strategic partnerships, and supporting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

This position partners closely with executive leadership, operational leaders, community stakeholders, elected officials, civic organizations, and the Carson Tahoe Foundation to advance Carson Tahoe’s mission, strategic priorities, community impact, and long-term sustainability.

The Director develops and executes integrated communication and community engagement strategies that support organizational growth, strengthen brand awareness, promote health improvement initiatives, and foster meaningful relationships throughout the region.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • Five (5) years progressive experience in patient or customer relations to include: communications, strategic planning, public relations, marketing, community relations, business development
  • Four (4) years supervisory or management experience
Preferred

Masters’ Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Knowledge of quad-county region, including community organizations, governmental agencies, and social service networks

Advanced Public Information Officer Certification (APIO) or above

Essential Functions
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships
    • Provides strategic leadership for community engagement, outreach, and partnership initiatives throughout Carson Tahoe’s service area.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations, governmental entities, educational institutions, employers, and community leaders.
    • Represents Carson Tahoe in community coalitions, partnerships, and collaborative initiatives.
    • Identifies opportunities to strengthen community trust, engagement, and organizational visibility.
    • Supports executive leadership participation in community and public relations activities.
  • Community Health Improvement & Community Benefit

    Oversees the development, implementation, measurement, and reporting of Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) priorities and Community Benefit activities.

    Leads community health improvement initiatives aligned with identified community needs and organizational strategic priorities.

    Supports health equity initiatives and efforts to reduce barriers to care across the communities served.

    Monitors and reports outcomes associated with community health improvement initiatives.

    Communications & Public Relations

    Oversees internal and external communications strategies to ensure consistent messaging, organizational alignment, and effective stakeholder engagement.

    Develops and implements communication plans supporting organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, service line growth, and community engagement efforts.

    Leads media relations activities, including media inquiries, interviews, press releases, and proactive storytelling opportunities.

    Provides communications support for executive leadership and organizational initiatives.

    Supports crisis communication planning and response activities in collaboration with executive leadership.

    Brand & Reputation Management
    • Serves as steward of the Carson Tahoe Health brand and organizational reputation.
    • Monitors community sentiment (locally and nationally) toward the Carson Tahoe Health including public perception, emerging issues, and reputation-related trends.
    • Advises executive leadership regarding communication strategies, stakeholder concerns, and reputation management opportunities.
    • Ensures organizational messaging aligns with Carson Tahoe’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
    • Oversees brand standards and promotes consistent organizational identity across communication channels and Carson Tahoe locations.

    Partners with Carson Tahoe Foundation leadership and volunteer leaders to advance fundraising priorities.

    Supports communication strategies related to major gifts , capital campaigns, donor engagement, planned giving, community awareness, and other Foundation growth initiatives.

    As a community Ambassador, helps inspire community involvement in philanthropy by educating and engaging.

    Partners to help build community commitment to CTH’s mission via philanthropy, through meaningful messaging that supports Foundation campaign goals.
