Job description

About Omidyar Network (ON):
Omidyar Network (ON) is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to bend the arc of the digital revolution toward shared power, prosperity, and possibility. Digital technology is a powerful and ubiquitous force that, harnessed wisely, makes wondrous things happen. We believe in working together to guide tech's trajectory intentionally. Our vision is for our shared humanity to steer our digital future.
So far, we have committed more than $1.94 billion to initiatives that share our vision. We engage, partner, and fund some of the world's brightest thinkers and innovators to guide our digital future toward the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
About ON's Executive Office:
Omidyar Network's Executive Office (EO) supports ON's CEO, runs the firm's Executive Team (ET) operations, manages the firm's engagement with our Board, and makes grants and investments driven by the CEO's priorities. Within the EO, the Communications Team develops ON's corporate communications strategy; manages the firm's brand and external relations; and partners with the Programs and Policy team to develop campaigns and devise strategies for narrative, storytelling, and media engagement work that advance the organization's impact goals.
About the Role:
Omidyar Network offers a unique platform for early career professionals to work alongside our colleagues and network partners. Omidyar Network Associates help identify and scope new portfolio investments, learn about and support the grantmaking process, research emerging issues, support internal and external communications, and support ON senior leaders in their external engagement and programmatic work. Associates gain meaningful, hands-on experience in the philanthropic sphere, while working with a collaborative, high-trust team. Our Associates join from a range of backgrounds, including tech, policy and advocacy, communications, consulting, nonprofits, and more. This Associate role is scoped to support the Executive Office's core functions. This includes working with the EO team to manage the CEO's portfolio of grants and investments, supporting the CEO's external engagement agenda, and supporting the Communications team in areas such as digital and internal communications.
This position reports to the Chief of Staff, and will also have close working relationships with the CEO, the Counselor to the CEO, and the Senior Manager, Communications.
How You'll Contribute to Our Impact:
Executive Office Programs
  • Collaborate with the Counselor to the CEO to identify, prioritize and implement programmatic activities carried out by the Executive Office - including event sponsorships, grants, and programmatic contracts
  • Support end-to-end execution, monitoring and support across the grant lifecycle, including collating relevant materials for diligence and reporting, and tracking correspondence
  • Support the Counselor to the CEO with program management, including stakeholder management, learning discussions and meetings, and coordination
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for grantees, partners, and other external stakeholders; attend calls and events with EO grantees, and help identify ways we can support their work
  • Develop quarterly/periodic updates for the CEO and ET on the state of the EO's programmatic pipeline and portfolio
  • Work with ON's Learning and Impact team to carry out learning processes for the EO programmatic portfolio, including portfolio reviews, learning and reflection processes, evaluations, and knowledge management

Executive Presence and Events
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Communications to support the CEO's involvement in external events and speaking engagements, including event planning and logistics, preparation of talking points and speeches, and support for follow-up activities
  • Support the planning, design and execution of ON-hosted events, such as grantee and partner convenings, receptions and social hours, and ON-hosted side events at major forums
  • Prepare the CEO for key meetings with leaders spanning our work across tech, policy, civil society, and philanthropy via written and verbal briefings
  • Support the Chief of Staff on the planning and carrying out ON board meetings

Communications Team Support
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Communications and ON vendors to support implementation of ON's digital media strategy and activities - including supporting content development, and partnering with ON team members to help them leverage ON digital channels
  • Support the development of key communications campaigns, and aid the CEO in advancing those campaigns through external communications channels
  • Develop and produce content for internal communications channels and activities, including regular All Hands meetings, and periodic firmwide update emails from the Executive Team and CEO.

Location:
This position will be based out of our Washington, D.C. office. We are currently working in a hybrid capacity and require staff to work in person 2 days per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Employees are required to reside within 100 miles of ON's office location. Candidates must have a current U.S. work authorization to be considered.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, salaried position that features competitive pay and benefits, including health care (medical/dental/vision), paid time off, and a generous employer 401k contribution. The salary range for this role is $95,400 - $119,300. ON manages pay equity seriously and new hires generally start at the midpoint of this range.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
Experience and Expertise
  • Passion for Omidyar Network's vision to bend the arc of the digital revolution toward shared power, prosperity, and possibility
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience in program and project management, communications, or similar functions; experience in issues of programmatic relevance to ON's mission a plus (e.g. tech policy, AI tech or governance, competition, advocacy and campaigns, tech equity, privacy and safety, responsible tech investing)
  • Excellent research, analysis, problem solving, and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills, with an attention to detail and ability to track and implement multiple projects at once
  • Outstanding time and project management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels as well as external consultants and vendors
  • Skills in developing visually compelling presentations and documents
  • A creative, curious, and an entrepreneurial spirit with a high degree of comfort with change and ambiguity
