Job description

For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Shop Laborer Summer Intern will perform a variety of tasks within the fabrication shop. This person will gain exposure to the welding industry and assist coworkers with everyday tasks.
Essential Functions:
  • Cleans and lubricates equipment, maintains a manufacturing area free from debris and dirt, and readies or puts away tools as assigned.
  • Closely follows directions to operate machinery, hold or supply materials and tools, and load or unload items on machinery.
  • Cares for property by repairing yard, shoveling and removing snow.
  • By using an oxygen acetylene torch, cut steel scrap material and carry to bin to assist with burn table operations.
  • Fill in blaster for continuing blast booth operations if full-time blaster is absent.
  • Performs any unskilled job at the fabrication shop.
  • Reports any issues to supervisor or higher-level employee.

  • Job training for this position is provided by department trainer.

Work Environment:
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse construction sites by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
