Intern Vet information

What does a veterinary intern do?

A veterinary intern assists veterinarians with clinical tasks such as examining animals, administering treatments, and performing diagnostic tests. They gain hands-on experience in animal care, often working in a veterinary clinic or hospital environment, and may observe surgeries and learn to use veterinary tools under supervision.

How to get an intern vet internship?

To secure an intern vet internship, applicants should complete relevant coursework in veterinary medicine, gain experience through volunteering or animal care roles, and apply to veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, or research facilities that offer internship programs. Strong communication skills, a passion for animal health, and the ability to work in a team are also important for success in this role.

How much does an intern vet make?

Intern veterinarians typically earn between $10 and $15 per hour, depending on the location, employer, and level of experience. Compensation may also include academic credit or stipends, and internships often require working in clinical or laboratory environments with supervision.
