Job description

Temporary Child Support Officer

Office of the Attorney General (OAG)

We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Child Support Officer position with the Office of the Attorney General.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Meet one of the following requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
    • Four (4) years of experience in the legal field; OR
    • Four (4) years of collections experience

Position Summary

This position performs child support enforcement activities, including locating absent parents, establishing paternity, enforcing court-ordered child support obligations, and assisting customers with child support-related inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations to locate parents, verify employment, and identify assets
  • Prepare legal and administrative documents related to child support cases
  • Monitor and manage child support cases
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and lump-sum collections
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and electronic records
  • Assist legal staff during court proceedings as needed
  • Review cases for appropriate enforcement actions or closure
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Comply with agency policies, procedures, ethics, and integrity standards

  • Effective interviewing and negotiation abilities
  • Computer proficiency, including data entry and document preparation
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience in investigations or child support enforcement
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to travel for business-related purposes
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
