Job description

For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Shop Laborer Summer Intern will perform a variety of tasks within the fabrication shop. This person will gain exposure to the welding industry and assist coworkers with everyday tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that all work is performed with SAFETY as the number one priority.
  • Performance/safety rigging is installed correctly and checked before each use.
  • Ability to correctly interpret specifications/drawings/Maguire prints and communicate print information to others, and communicate print discrepancies back to project managers.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using SMAW (stick) and some flux-core welding.
  • Examines work piece for defects to ensure conformance with specifications and records data as required.
  • Corrects malformation in parts and bends in metal work pieces.
  • Ability to use painting, cutting, and welding equipment.
  • Strong time management skills to lead the team to complete work on time.
  • Motivates, maintains, and encourages others to work safely, productively, and quality conscious, and to keep the job site safe.
  • Maintain all equipment/service equipment when needed.
  • Complete daily production paperwork and review crew’s timecards.
  • Lead weekly safety toolbox meetings.
  • Lead in-person customer interactions while performing field work.
  • Present and gather customer sign-off on required documentation.
  • Lead field team assistants/personnel to perform the required scope in a timely manner.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship, technical or welding degree preferred
  • 3 years of welding experience preferred or a combination of schooling and experience
  • Previous experience in water tank repair preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a company weld test (SMAW required).
  • Ability to travel frequently (out months at a time and multi-state assignments).
  • Minimum age requirement of 21 for driving responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Medical DOT Certificate, Class A CDL would be preferred.
  • OSHA 10 and CPR certification or ability to obtain them.

  • Majority of the time is spent in the field and will work in unfavorable weather conditions; both heat and cold.

  • Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk at heights up to 200 feet.
  • Adhere to Maguire’s PPE Policy and Safety Programs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.
