Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

This full time school psychologist intern will serve as a district employee and will serve in multiple buildings. We are looking for a skilled individual who is a strong collaborator. Additionally, a person comfortable leading conversations and meetings at the building level as it pertains to the role of a school psychologist. 

The School Psychologist Intern receives supervision and mentoring from highly experienced district school psychologists. 

Position Type: Student Support Services -School Psychologist Intern

Salary: Per HVEA contract 

Reports To: Student Support  Service Supervisor, Principal

Start Date: 08/24/2026

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold Master's degree in School Psychology
  • Preliminary Certification in the State of Michigan as a School Psychologist
  • Experience and training in administering and interpreting psychological evaluation within an education setting is preferred
  • Knowledgeable and able to apply the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) in determining eligibility on Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MET)
  • Knowledgeable and able to apply the rules in finding students eligible under Section 504
  • CPI trained, or willing to complete training through Crisis Prevention Institute
  • Completion of school psychologist coursework and supervised practicum
  • Ability to build professional and collegial relations with staff and parents
  • Ability to develop genuine and positive relationships with students
  • Ability to facilitate student learning, growth and achievement
  • Ability to incorporate research-based best practices for instructional design and delivery

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts extensive psychological evaluation and re-evaluations of referred students.
  • Work with Supervisor and Multi-Evaluation Teams in eligibility decisions following MARSE Rules.
  • Interprets psychological data to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and the student.
  • Experience with Positive Behavior management and universal strategies to support students with behavior concerns.
  • Participants in case conferences when referred students are involved, or as requested.
  • Collects data and provides systematic observations for students experiencing emotional, learning or attention problems in the classroom.
  • Works within a team to complete Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and supports the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Participates in professional learning opportunities to keep abreast of new developments and best practices in the field to best support and plan for students.
  • Strong written communication skills-psychological reports required for all initial and re-determination of Individual Education Plans (IEP) and or Section 504's

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Master's Degree or higher.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively.  Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.  Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
