Job description

Description: We are looking for a greeter/intern to join the United Hospice team for a 10-week assignment lasting from March to mid-May. The internship requires three to four days on site, eight hours per day; the days and hours are flexible. The intern will be supervised by the JRHR Administrator in conjunction with the college advisor and will receive guidance and feedback from healthcare professionals. In addition to receiving college credit, the intern will gain valuable training and real-life experience in a healthcare environment.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in the human services fields enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in human services, social work, health administration, gerontology, sociology or psychology. This role is ideal for individuals seeking to enter healthcare, social work, or those looking for a meaningful way to support their community. This internship opportunity will allow students to build their inter-personal and customer service skills, knowledge in problem solving and decision making, and learn to work with diverse populations, healthcare professionals, patients and families. The intern will work with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals who are providing care and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcoming: Greet visitors, families, and patients at the entrance and escort them to inpatient units. The Greeter Intern serves as the first point of contact at an inpatient facility, providing a warm, comforting welcome to families and visitors.
  • Wayfinding: Assist guests with navigating to patient rooms or common areas.
  • Support: Provide comfort and information in a compassionate manner and supporting the clinical team by helping them ease the emotional burden on families.
  • Administrative Aid: Answer phones, manage front desk tasks, organize documents, and tidying office and public areas.
  • Companionship: Offer a comforting, calm presence to patients and guests and support them in such ways as: listen to life stories, provide soothing presence, assist with food and snacks for patients and families, etc.
  • Safety: Adhere to infection control protocols, safety procedures, and HIPAA compliance.
