Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Intern Pharmacist will integrate into the clinical, teaching, research and distribution system for UC San Diego Health System and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. All job activities of the Intern will be under direct supervision of a Pharmacist.

Performs a full range of duties in a specialized functional area and able to perform all general tasks in all areas of the pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in the preparation of medications for patient use (oral and parenteral) according to established procedures; assist in the distribution of medications; performs computer order entry, record keeping, and billing functions; maintain inventory levels; and perform other duties as assigned. Will perform assigned operational duties in a scheduled area and will assist pharmacists in completing medication orders and related distribution duties in the assigned areas.

Expectations of scheduling: available full-time during summer and expected to work variable shifts on average of every other weekend and during major and/or minor holiday(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Intern Pharmacist License with the California State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Current UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy student.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service and counseling skills, ability to operate computer systems; demonstrated teaching skills and writing skills, which can be applied to article publication in hospital newsletter and professional journal.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Part-time or full-time work experiences in pharmacy.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,448 - $84,564 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.95 - $40.50

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
