2027 Summer Internship - US Trade Floor Operations Analyst (Cash Desk, Middle Office, Investment Operations)

Internship positions are located at PIMCO’s Newport Beach, CA Headquarters

You’re eligible to apply if you:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree
  • Must be able to begin full time employment at a PIMCO office between January 2028 - August 2028
  • Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 - December 2027)
  • Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative collegiate grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Are business proficient in English

You’ll excel in this program if you:

  • Demonstrate advanced Microsoft Excel skills and/or Python, SQL, VBA
  • Show a strong interest in the financial markets, macroeconomics, investment finance , and the investment trade lifecycle
  • Possess outstanding analytical skills with the ability to function efficiently and problem-solve in a fast paced and time-critical environment

What you will experience:

  • Gain exposure to the end-to-end investment trade lifecycle through structured experiences across Cash Desk, Middle Office, and Investment Operations.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Management, Account Management, Trade Support, Legal & Compliance, Operations, Technology, State Street IMS, broker-dealers, custodian banks, clients, and third-party platforms , as relevant to each team.
  • Contribute to technology-enabled process enhancements, data analysis, reporting, operational controls, and workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Build a foundation for potential future opportunities across Trade Floor Operations, Trade Management, Investment Operations, and the broader investment platform

As a Trade Floor Operations Analyst intern within the US Trade Floor Operations group, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your career by learning about and working within the following three teams:

Cash Desk

The Cash Desk is a key operational unit responsible for managing cash, reporting client cash flows, and providing internal cash forecasts across client accounts, mutual funds, and hedge funds. The team works closely with Portfolio Management to support projected overdraft coverage and the investment of excess cash into liquid securities. The Cash Desk regularly interacts with portfolio managers, account managers, internal operations groups, clients, State Street IMS, and custodian banks.

Middle Office

The Middle Office manages and governs a key control environment supporting the day-to-day trade lifecycle of PIMCO's Portfolio Management team. Team members collaborate with Portfolio Management, Trade Support, Legal & Compliance, Operations, Technology, and State Street IMS. The team also engages with broker-dealers, custodian banks, and third-party trading platforms.

Investment Operations

Investment Operations includes Investment Operations and Corporate Actions. Investment Operations focuses on new securities, emerging-market capabilities, FX execution methods, claim and break resolution, and custodial oversight. Corporate Actions oversees mandatory and voluntary events, restructurings, proxies, bank loan amendments, defaulted securities processing, and class actions. Both teams interact broadly across PIMCO and with State Street Bank, broker-dealers, and client custodian banks.

The PIMCO Internship Experience:

  • The PIMCO Internship is a 10-week program that runs from early June to mid-August, with the expectation that you will be available for the full duration of the program

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.
