The Role
Join Suffolk's AI Studio in Boston as an AI Intern and help transform how AI powers construction management. You'll collaborate with Product Managers, AI Engineers, and Data Engineers to prototype and build AI-driven solutions that address real jobsite and functional challenges.
In this role, you'll contribute to developing AI agents that reduce manual reporting, accelerate RFIs, improve planning workflows, and enhance project visibility. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with modern AI tools and cloud technologies while contributing to Suffolk's vision for the "Construction Site of the Future." You will also help propagate the use of AI throughout the company, by enabling business teams to adopt self-serve AI tools.

Responsibilities
AI Product Development & Prototyping
  • Assist in translating product requirements into functional AI prototypes using AWS Bedrock, Databricks, ChatGPT, Microsoft CoPilot, Claude Code, Devin AI or other AI tools.
  • Support development of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases and structured data sources.
  • Help design and test AI agents that leverage multiple models (e.g., Claude, GPT, Llama) for different tasks.
  • Contribute to experimentation, evaluation, and iteration of AI-driven workflows.

Backend & Application Development
  • Build and enhance APIs and backend services using Python (FastAPI) and AWS services.
  • Support development of agent workflows using frameworks like LangChain.
  • Assist with integrating AI solutions into internal tools such as Microsoft Teams or web applications.

Data & Integration Support
  • Work with Data Engineers to ingest, clean, and prepare data for AI applications.
  • Help implement data pipelines and support vectorization for AI use cases.
  • Contribute to improving data quality, accessibility, and performance.
  • Support monitoring of AI system performance, including latency and cost.
  • Learn and apply best practices in LLMOps, security, and governance.

Collaboration & Learning
  • Work in an Agile team environment alongside engineers and product leaders.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning.
  • Document learnings and contribute to internal AI playbooks and best practices.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with APIs and backend development.
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts, especially large language models (LLMs) , Machine Learning, or Data Science.
  • Full fluency with consumer grade AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, including advanced prompt engineering, and building GPTs and agents within/using those tools.
  • Experience using AI to generate software code
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) or interest in learning cloud-based development.
  • Basic understanding of data processing, SQL, or data pipelines.
  • Interest in modern AI development frameworks (e.g., LangChain) and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
