SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Surveyor is expected to perform land and hydrographic surveys in a professional, timely, and safe manner that satisfies the client's requirements. The Surveyor will be responsible for survey project planning, coordination, execution of fieldwork, and production of project deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Survey project schedules and forecasts.
  • Planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical and management aspects of projects.
  • Direct and perform land based and hydrographic (single-beam, multi-beam, and sonar imaging) surveys.
  • On-site safety, directing, and documenting safety meetings.
  • Adhere to quality assurance procedures.
  • Knowledge of surveying equipment and software.
  • Complete project administrative tasks, forms, etc.
  • Ensure survey equipment is in good working condition and properly report any deficiencies.
  • Operate vehicles, survey vessels, and associated support equipment.
  • Assist with the development of survey procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of project scopes and estimates.
  • Plan and execute project quality control and assurance procedures.

This position requires up to 80% travel to project sites. Survey work may involve multiโ€day field assignments, frequent mobilization to remote locations, and extended time on small vessels or along shorelines. Candidates should expect irregular schedules based on project demands, including early mornings, occasional weekends, and overnight travel. The role requires the ability to work safely in varying weather and environmental conditions, operate independently while traveling, and represent the organization professionally at all field locations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or certification.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in land surveying.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical knowledge, experience, and capabilities in the area of practice.
  • High level leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-Year degree from an accredited college or university with a course in engineering or closely related field
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation proficiency
  • Certified Hydrographer
  • 10hr OSHA General Construction Course

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY

The duties of this position require the employee to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. This position may require the employee to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While in the field, the intern may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. This position requires maintaining current industry knowledge and expertise through active involvement in professional organizations and/or other activities that may require additional and/or flexible working hours. COMPENSATION

The hourly pay range for positions in Kentucky is $24 to $30 an hour, depending on education and relevant experience.
