Job description

Description SUMMARY: The Human Resources Intern provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources team while gaining practical experience in municipal HR functions. This position assists with HR compliance, employee support, records management, recruitment activities, and special projects under the guidance of the HR Director and HR Generalist. The intern contributes to the efficient delivery of HR services while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Organize, maintain, and securely file FMLA and Workers' Compensation records in accordance with record retention and confidentiality requirements Assist with onboarding activities for new employees, including preparation of onboarding materials and employee documentation Document and help improve onboarding procedures and processes Prepare and organize terminated employee records for retention and storage Assist in organizing HR storage areas and accurately logging public records and archived files Support the Payroll System Implementation Team by participating in assigned projects, data organization, testing, and administrative tasks Demonstrate professionalism and strong interpersonal communication skills when interacting with employees, staff, and external partners Prioritize assignments and contribute effectively to collaborative team projects and departmental initiatives Share ideas, information, and process improvement recommendations with team members and supervisors Schedule, coordinate, and assist with departmental meetings and related administrative activities Respond to general departmental inquiries and provide administrative support as directed by HR staff Conduct background research and compile information on various HR-related topics and projects as assigned Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and dependability in meeting assigned responsibilities Perform other related duties and responsibilities of a similar nature or level as assigne SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: None Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Skill in: Using computers and Microsoft Office Suite and other related software applications Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Maintaining a high level of organization and accuracy Demonstrating strong attention to detail and time management skills Education and Experience: College-level coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field preferred Ability to: Interpret and apply instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Provide professional and courteous customer service Maintain accurate records, files, and logs Compile, organize, and report information and data effectively Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Communicate effectively and interact professionally with coworkers, supervisors, employees, and the general public to exchange information and receive work direction Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE: None Supplemental Information ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
