Hours per week: Approx. 20

Duration: August 2026 - December 2026

Position Summary 

The Corporate Partnership Intern position supports United Way of Central Indiana’s mission by assisting with the coordination and execution of Eli Lilly and Company’s annual workplace giving campaign. This role provides operational and tactical support, development of communication tools and presentation materials that promote United Way’s impact and inspire workplace giving. 

This internship is designed as a structured hands-on learning experience in nonprofit fundraising, relationship management, and community engagement. By the end of this internship, the intern will:  

  • Gain practical experience in nonprofit fundraising through supporting the planning and execution of a large-scale corporate workplace giving campaign  
  • Develop foundational skills in donor engagement, stakeholder relationship management, and customer service within a corporate partnership context  
  • Learn how campaign data is tracked, monitored, and translated into insights to strengthen participation and overall fundraising performance  
  • Strengthen professional communication skills through creating tailored messaging, presentations, and follow-up engagement with internal and external stakeholders  
  • Understand how storytelling, impact reporting, and cross-functional collaboration support donor engagement and advance organizational mission outcomes 

Position Duties & Responsibilities

Fundraising 

  • Support the Manager of Corporate Partnerships in planning, organizing, and executing special events, trainings, and engagement activities for the Lilly workplace giving campaign. 
  • Provide outstanding customer service to external stakeholders by providing campaign committee members with timely and professional follow-up, coordinating logistics, and assisting with problem solving. 
  • Help create compelling presentations and resources emphasizing United Way’s mission, vision, and impact tailored to a variety of audiences. 
  • Monitor campaign data during the giving period, identify performance trends, and share actionable insights to strengthen engagement and donor participation. 

Communication 

  • Follow up with participants after engagements to thank them, share United Way information, and encourage ongoing involvement and giving. 
  • Develop targeted messages for specific audience segments. 
  • In partnership with the Manager of Corporate Partnerships, identify and share impact stories in collaboration with campaign Ambassadors. 
  • Connect campaign Ambassadors outside of United Way’s service area with their local United Way. 

Administrative 

  • Track and document attendance at events, engagements, and trainings.  
  • Organize and distribute campaign materials and supplies.  
  • Capture photos and videos at events, as appropriate, for communications, documentation, and impact sharing purposes. 

Internal Relationships 

  • Work closely with the Manager of Corporate Partnerships to help plan and support the execution of the Lilly workplace giving campaign. Strong communication, collaboration, and timely updates are important for this role.  
  • Assist the Volunteer Engagement team with setting up and breaking down volunteer activities. 
  • Coordinate with United Way team members to help coordinate event staffing and provide coverage as needed. 
  • Partner with teams across United Way—including Major Gifts, Volunteer Engagement, Community Impact, and Enterprise Empowerment—to support initiatives that communicate United Way’s impact and priorities. 

Flexibility 

  • Adapt to the evolving needs of the organization and external environment.  
  • This role may require travel within the United Way service area, approximately 50% of the time. 

Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business, or a related field 
  • Interest in nonprofit fundraising, workplace giving, or community impact work 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort presenting to small or mid-sized groups 
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks 
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Demonstrated reliability and follow-through on assigned tasks 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an interest in building relationships and providing customer service 
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and care 
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
