Who We Are
We are a small, advanced space technology company working to design and deliver components for the next generation of lunar rovers. Collaborating closely with our sister companies throughout Europe, we leverage our automotive and motorsports experience to provide cutting-edge electric vehicle technology to the space sector.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Technician to support the manufacturing, assembly, and integration of precision aerospace and spaceflight hardware. This role combines mechanical and electrical assembly expertise, with hands-on responsibility for high-reliability electro-mechanical systems, structures, battery modules, and wire harnesses in a controlled cleanroom environment.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical proficiency across both mechanical and electrical disciplines, thrives in a quality-driven setting, and is capable of working independently while mentoring junior technicians and contributing to process improvements in a fast-paced precision startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform precision assembly of aerospace hardware, including:
- Mechanical structures, subassemblies, and bolted/welded components
- Battery module and pack integration (cell handling, interconnects, insulation, and enclosures)
- Wire harness fabrication, cable routing, termination, and installation
- Execute electro-mechanical integration tasks such as connector mating, torque-controlled fastening, soldering, crimping, and cable management
- Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, CAD models, and detailed work instructions
- Conduct precision measurements and verifications using calibrated tools (torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, multimeters, etc.)
- Perform hand soldering of through-hole and surface-mount components per industry standards
- Complete and maintain comprehensive build documentation, including travelers, inspection records, test data, nonconformance reports (NCRs), and rework logs
- Conduct in-process and final inspections, verifying critical features, torque values, electrical continuity, insulation resistance, and workmanship criteria
- Support battery handling, ESD-sensitive operations, and high-reliability processes while strictly adhering to safety and contamination control protocols
- Maintain cleanroom standards, including gowning, tool cleanliness, and FOD prevention
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to identify process improvements, update work instructions, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Mentor and train junior technicians on best practices for assembly, documentation, and quality standards
- Contribute to prototype and low-volume production builds in a dynamic, evolving environment
- Maintain tools, workstations, and materials in accordance with company and industry standards
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment in the future.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in a relevant field strongly preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on assembly experience in aerospace, space, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing
- Demonstrated expertise in both mechanical and electrical assembly disciplines
- Strong experience with:
- Precision bolted assemblies and torque-controlled fastening
- Wire harness fabrication, crimping, connector termination, and cable routing
- Hand soldering (fine pitch/microelectronics experience preferred)
- Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Experience working within a formal Quality Management System (QMS) such as AS9100 or ISO 9001
- Familiarity with aerospace documentation, traceability, and inspection practices
- High attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a controlled, process-driven environment
- Comfortable operating in an early-stage startup with evolving priorities and high ownership expectations
Leadership & Supervision
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising small teams of technicians in high-reliability assembly, integration, or manufacturing environments
- Proven ability to provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians
- Experience coordinating daily work assignments, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring team adherence to quality, safety, and schedule requirements
- Track record of supporting process improvements, implementing best practices, and contributing to team performance in a fast-paced production setting
Preferred
- Experience assembling lithium-ion battery packs or similar high-reliability energy storage systems
- Knowledge of cell handling, tab welding/interconnect methods, and electrical testing
- Certifications in any of the following: NASA-STD-8739 series, IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or ESD (ANSI/ESD S20.20)
- Basic understanding of welding processes (TIG/MIG) and inspection criteria
- Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and composite materials
- Familiarity with ERP/MES systems for build tracking
- Prior cleanroom experience (ISO Class 7 or 8) and contribution to process development in R&D or low-volume production environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment with full gowning
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- High manual dexterity for precision assembly and fine detail work
