The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer by supervising a team of construction inspectors engaged in construction inspection duties and reports directly to Engineer 6, Project Engineer.

The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. OPEN TO LaDOTD EMPLOYEES ONLY Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency: https://dotd.la.gov/about/office-of-management-and-finance/human-resources/career-center/ Minimum Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR Thirty semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR Possession of an engineer intern certificate. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Serves as a team leader over a group of DOTD employees engaged in the inspection, surveying and sampling & testing on a wide variety of construction projects

Manages major and minor projects, and performs inspection of contractor's work for compliance with the plans and specifications on such operations as: asphalt roadway, embankment, drainage structures, placement of reinforcing steel for bridges, concrete roadway pavement, box culverts, pile driving, etc. Works directly with the contractor's supervisory personnel to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications. Frequently makes field discussions that require technical knowledge and experience.

Performs calculations for determining areas, weights, and volume, etc. for bridge structures and roadways.
