About Dance Media

All Dance. All The Time.

Dance Media is the #1 platform for the dance industry, delivering engaging content across digital, social, print, and event platforms to an audience of 16 million. With six multichannel brands, including Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit, Pointe, Dance Teacher, Dance Retailer News and The Dance Edit, our audience spans dance enthusiasts of all types. From students to professionals, teachers, choreographers, artistic directors, and studio owners, we serve the entire eco-system of dance.

Recently acquired by the same entrepreneurs who transformed Backstage from a legacy print publication into a profitable digital marketplace, Dance Media is embarking on an exciting new chapter. We’re investing in every aspect of the business: modernizing our technology, improving the infrastructure, and building a flat culture where good ideas win, initiative is rewarded, and talented people can make a real impact.

The Opportunity:

Dance Media is seeking a Sales Executive, Group Memberships to drive growth for Dance Teacher+ and Pointe+. In this role, you’ll be a one-person team dedicated to group membership sales, but will work closely with our Project Manager - Memberships, our Web Developer, and the Editor-in-Chiefs of our respective brands. We are a small team of organized, kind, and collaborative professionals who care deeply about the dance community and the resources we provide to help it.

In this role, you will oversee the full group membership sales cycle for Dance Teacher+ and Pointe+. You'll identify and connect with prospective customers, build and grow lasting relationships with new and existing accounts, and help communicate the value of our membership products through thoughtful outreach and marketing initiatives. You'll also serve as a trusted resource for current and prospective members while helping ensure our products continue to meet the needs of dance teachers and pre-professional ballet dancers. As only the second person to hold this position, you'll have the opportunity to make it your own. This is a high-impact position where you’ll influence sales strategy, marketing initiatives, and product evolution while serving as an ambassador for two of the most respected brands in dance. The Sales Executive, Group Memberships reports to the President.

The salary range for this position is $50,000–$55,000 annually, plus commission. We are open to qualified U.S.-based candidates.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Drive revenue growth by prospecting, developing, and closing group membership sales for Dance Teacher+ and Pointe+

  • Build and maintain relationships with dance educators, public schools, colleges and universities, conservatories, dance studios, and dance teams

  • Manage the full sales cycle, from lead generation and outreach through proposal development, negotiation, closing, onboarding, and renewal

  • Collaborate with editorial and membership teams on targeted marketing materials and outreach campaigns for new and existing customers

  • Collaborate with the Memberships Project Manager to improve member engagement, retention, and overall customer experience

  • Maintain accurate prospect, customer, and pipeline data within CRM systems and oversee membership billing and renewal cycles

  • Partner with editorial teams to leverage content and industry insights that support sales efforts and strengthen customer relationships

  • Work closely with product and development partners to provide customer feedback and help shape future product enhancements

  • Manage and mentor a dedicated intern focused on prospect research and lead generation

  • Represent Dance Media within the dance community and serve as a trusted resource for prospective institutional partners

Who You Are:

  • 3+ years of experience in sales or business development; subscription or membership sales experience preferred

  • You have existing relationships with or have sold to the educational sector

  • Experience identifying, contacting, and closing cold targets

  • Highly organized, you are capable of effectively balancing multiple client relationships and budgets at various stages of the sales cycle

  • Autonomous, self-directed, and high-ownership; you take pride in delivering a great experience to customers

  • Collaborative and low-ego, you support your colleagues and know when to ask for help

  • You have some marketing experience; you’ve managed email campaigns, created newsletters, or developed content to support sales or business goals

  • Proficient with CRM platforms, Google Workspace, and sales reporting tools

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences

  • Flexible, resourceful, and organized; comfortable working in a lean environment

  • Familiarity and/or interest in the dance community is a strong plus!

Why Dance Media:

  • Work directly with pragmatic and collaborative executives from Backstage.com, BCG, Cast & Crew, etc. who value innovation and initiative

  • Access to cutting-edge tools and platforms across every department

  • Thrive in a flat structure where your voice is heard and respected

  • Be part of revitalizing an iconic brand with a storied history

  • Grow in any direction you choose — operations, product, development, or marketing. Dream big!

  • Maintain a fair work-life balance. We cherish time with our families (fur babies included!) and encourage you to do the same
