Job description

Surg Tech Intern

Inspired by faith. Driven by innovation. Powered by humankindness. CommonSpirit Health is building a healthier future for all through its integrated health services. As one of the nation's largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations, CommonSpirit Health delivers more than 20 million patient encounters annually through more than 2,300 clinics, care sites and 158 hospital-based locations, in addition to its home-based services and virtual care offerings.

As our Surgical Intern you will gain invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic perioperative environment, setting the foundation for a successful career in surgical technology. This direct care position offers an unparalleled opportunity for students enrolled in an accredited surgical program to develop critical skills under the direct supervision of registered nurses and certified surgical technicians. Expand your knowledge and practical skills within a reputable healthcare facility.

Every day you will assist with the planning and preparation of necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures, demonstrating your technical skill in their care and use. You'll contribute to circulating duties, assist with patient prepping, positioning, and draping, and complete accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts. Additionally, you will support room turnover, patient transport, and specimen handling, all while adhering to the highest standards of sanitation, safety, and patient confidentiality.

To be successful in this role, you will be a student in good standing, having completed at least the second quarter of an accredited Surgical Technology program. You must demonstrate a foundational knowledge of surgical procedures and display an eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced surgical team. A current Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) certification is required, reflecting your commitment to patient safety and readiness for this critical direct care role.

CHI Health St. Francis was established in Grand Island, Neb. in 1887. Today, our hospital is a regional referral center, with more than 100 physicians and more than 1,100 team members working together to build a healthier community. Our goal is to provide patients with high-quality medical care close to home, where they can be supported by their family, friends, and community.
