Overview

Position Type Full Time

Cold Forming Tool Design Engineer

The Cold Forming Tool Design Engineer provides direct representation of the engineering department to manufacturing and/or operations. Responsible for design of tools used for RAMCO in-house manufacturing product and related support, including creating and managing drawings, simulation of manufacturing processes, operator support, assist troubleshooting for those manufacturing processes. These manufacturing processes include, but are not limited to, forming, tapping, and machining.

Essential Functions

  • Translate customer requirements into manufacturing drawing(s) with internal Control Limits where possible
  • Design Part Progressions and Tooling considering manufacturing equipment parameters, RAMCO tooling and wire standardization, tool stress, and manufacturing best practices. Use of simulation software such as DEFORM is highly encouraged
  • Create Tooling drawings and part numbers in RAMCO's ERP system for tool ordering or manufacturing.
  • Support effort to reduce production costs by optimizing tool design and part progression sequences and contribute to monthly summary reporting of this effort
  • Participate in supporting QC with root cause analysis and resolution for defects that result in internal or external customer concerns or NCR's
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Has responsibility for following personal and departmental requirements of Quality Assurance systems and programs, including compliance with their requirements, are satisfied
  • Responsible for promoting and following through with Quality Philosophy and ensuring departmental objectives are met
  • Other various duties, as assigned, aligned with meeting company or departmental objectives

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • 7+ years fastener cold forming tool design experience. Automotive Tier 1 industry experience desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering Technology preferred. Relevant job experience in lieu of Engineering Degree acceptable.

Preferred Skills

Print and specification reading and interpretation and creation using AutoCAD Inventor, Strong Mechanical aptitude, Process Improvement mindset, Analyzing Information, Verbal Communication, Informing Others, Continual Improvement, Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Dealing with Complexity, Statistics, Lean workplace, general knowledge of manufacturing and machining practices.
