Position Summary
Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Blood Bank Section Supervisor to oversee daily operations within our hospital laboratory's transfusion services area.
In this role, you will provide leadership and oversight for blood bank operations, ensuring the accurate, timely, and safe testing, preparation, and distribution of blood products. You will be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting staff development, troubleshooting complex testing and instrumentation issues, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and patient safety.
This position is ideal for a laboratory professional who thrives in a leadership role and is committed to excellence in transfusion medicine.
What You'll Do
  • Supervise daily blood bank operations and laboratory personnel
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs
  • Troubleshoot testing systems, instrumentation, and workflow issues
  • Manage blood product inventory and distribution processes
  • Support staff training, competency assessment, and professional development
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical teams on transfusion needs
  • Participate in implementation of new technologies and testing methods
  • Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
    OR
  • Associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Completion of an accredited laboratory training program required
Certification
  • Certification eligibility as MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MLT (ASCP), HEW, CLS (NCA), or equivalent
  • Certification required within 12 months of eligibility per CLIA standards (if applicable)
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of high-complexity laboratory experience with a bachelor's degree
    OR
  • Minimum of 4 years of high-complexity laboratory experience with an associate degree
