Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary:
The CPS Academic Advising Team is accepting applications for a postgraduate, part-time internship. This unique opportunity is geared towards individuals with a strong interest in exploring a career in higher education, specifically in academic advising and student support services.
The Academic Advising Intern will be a full member of the Advising Team, supporting a caseload of students and contributing meaningfully to the various projects, events, and initiatives put forth by the Advising Team and the College of Professional Studies.
As a result of this program, the Intern will develop an understanding of prominent student development theories and academic advising approaches through both hands-on experience and targeted professional development opportunities. They will cultivate a personal advising philosophy to guide their work across the higher education landscape.
Requirements:
60% STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
  • Serve as an Academic Concierge for all CPS students
  • As the bridge from acceptance to enrollment, liaise between new students and advisors, assist with the onboarding of new students
  • Routinely check in with specific groups of students throughout the semester, addressing logistical and administrative barriers and refer students to appropriate resources
  • Collaborate with Advising and Admissions colleagues in the transfer credit evaluation process
  • Regularly monitor and edit content for student-facing advising information and messaging for consistency and accuracy
  • Oversee advising email account by responding to emails, sending announcements, and triaging messages as needed
  • Assist Advising Team with programming, such as Orientation, Commencement, and various student-focused events
  • Maintain tracking documents to ensure accurate data collection
  • Engage in benchmarking research to ensure the team's efforts and services are aligned with institutional goals, higher education trends, and academic advising scholarship
  • Develop ethical advising practices in record-keeping, FERPA compliance, navigation of difficult conversations, and administrative processes
  • Assist Advising Team in daily tasks and attend meetings when appropriate

25% ACADEMIC ADVISING
  • Oversee a caseload of assigned students:
    • Meet one-on-one with students via individual advising appointments, establishing rapport and maintaining regular communication, assisting academic program and career exploration, supporting registration, and referring students to a network of campus resources, when appropriate

10% INDUSTRY/COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
  • Collaborate with teams in CPS and across the University to understand the collective nature of advising and student support
  • Work with Academic Advising Team and campus partners, when applicable, on development and coordination of courses/events
  • Participate in relevant professional development activities and/or associations
  • Represent the Advising Team and CPS at various campus events sponsored by CPS and/or the University

5% ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participate in events on occasional nights and weekends

Additional Information:
Formal Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Currently enrolled in a master's program at Villanova, preferably in higher education, counseling, or related field.

  • Be proficient in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft office products, especially Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word. Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms.
  • Have a deep commitment to the College of Professional Studies, to the University's Catholic/Augustinian heritage and the advancement of its mission, and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • The position will extend through the end of the academic year but may be renewed for an additional academic year at the supervisor's discretion and in consultation with the intern.
  • Internship credit may be available.
