Specialist, Carrier Management
Your analytical thinking, negotiation skills, and ability to build strong business relationships make you a great fit for our Carrier Management Specialist position. Join our dynamic team and play a key role in supporting Dollar Tree's inbound transportation strategy by optimizing carrier partnerships, improving supply chain performance, and reducing transportation costs while maintaining exceptional service levels.
About Your Role:
As a Carrier Management Specialist at Dollar Tree, you'll support and maintain carrier relationships to ensure successful negotiation and utilization of carrier services while delivering the lowest landed cost of North American goods. In this role, you'll partner closely with Distribution Center leadership, Outbound Transportation Operations, Replenishment, buying teams, carriers, and inbound transportation partners to optimize transportation performance, improve service levels, and support evolving business needs.
Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Carrier Management & Transportation Strategy:
  • Support and maintain strategic carrier relationships to ensure optimal transportation service and cost performance.
  • Effectively communicate and implement domestic inbound transportation programs, procedures, and policies negotiated with carrier partners.
  • Negotiate competitive transportation rates and strategies with new and existing carriers.
  • Evaluate transportation market trends and recommend strategies to minimize risk and improve overall transportation performance.
  • Research emerging supply chain strategies, technologies, and carrier partners to enhance transportation operations.

Performance Analysis & Reporting:
  • Develop and execute reporting to evaluate carrier performance, service levels, and transportation costs.
  • Analyze transportation data to identify opportunities for cost savings, operational improvements, and enhanced service.
  • Utilize available data to recommend transportation strategies that improve efficiency and reduce overall landed costs.
  • Participate in budget development, monthly P&L reporting, and financial performance analysis.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with Distribution Center leadership, Outbound Transportation Operations, Replenishment, Buying teams, vendors, and carriers to optimize inbound transportation.
  • Collaborate with buying teams to support negotiations of favorable freight terms with suppliers.
  • Represent the inbound transportation team in cross-functional meetings and strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate implementation of transportation programs that support changing vendor programs, sales objectives, and budget requirements.

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement:
  • Support operational disaster recovery initiatives to ensure business continuity.
  • Organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely communication and effective information flow.
  • Identify opportunities to improve transportation processes, carrier utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Complete additional projects and assignments as required.

Your Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in transportation operations or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of LTL, truckload, intermodal operations, third-party dedicated fleet management, transportation contracts, and industry terminology.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new systems and applications quickly.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and strong ethical standards.
  • Ability to develop and implement new ideas, procedures, and business processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Flexibility to travel as business needs require.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience within the retail industry and/or a large transportation organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access and SQL.
  • Previous transportation experience supporting a multi-billion-dollar organization.

Start Rate = $60,000.00 - $66,500.00 based on experience plus 5% bonus.
