Transportation Coordinator

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite, four days per week - Kohler, WI

Opportunity

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supporting domestic transportation operations through the coordination, execution, and continuous improvement of inbound and outbound freight movements. This position serves as a key liaison between Kohler distribution centers, shipment planning teams, customers, and transportation providers to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation execution.

The role requires a strong understanding of transportation operations, carrier performance drivers, customer delivery requirements, routing guide compliance, transportation management systems, network optimization principles, freight claims management, and reporting analytics. The Transportation Coordinator identifies operational challenges, develops solutions, manages transportation-related projects, and provides actionable insights to support service, cost, and productivity objectives.

 Transportation Operations

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments across Truckload, Less-Than-Truckload, Intermodal, and other transportation modes.
  • Collaborate daily with distribution centers, shipment planning teams, customer service teams, and carrier partners to ensure transportation execution and equipment availability.
  • Plan and manage the physical movement of materials and finished goods while balancing service requirements, transportation costs, and operational constraints.
  • Monitor transportation performance and proactively identify, communicate, and resolve shipment delays, capacity constraints, and service issues.

Customer and Carrier Management

  • Serve as a customer-facing transportation resource and develop expertise in customer delivery requirements and transportation expectations.
  • Act as a liaison between Kohler facilities, customers, and customer-designated carriers.
  • Manage site-level carrier relationships and support adherence to published routing guides and transportation policies.
  • Communicate transportation performance trends, customer feedback, and carrier performance concerns to leadership.
  • Assist with onboarding new customers and transportation providers as business needs evolve.

Transportation Systems and Analytics

  • Develop expertise in Transportation Management Systems, customer transportation portals, and transportation reporting tools.
  • Investigate operational issues through root cause analysis and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on corrective actions.
  • Audit transportation invoices, shipping documentation, freight claims, and system records for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Create and maintain transportation reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to support decision making.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and transportation network efficiencies.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or participate in projects focused on improving transportation processes, service performance, technology adoption, and cost optimization.
  • Analyze carrier and operational performance trends and recommend corrective actions or improvement initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts aligned with transportation and supply chain strategic objectives.

Leadership and Business Partnership

  • Provide transportation expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding tactical transportation issues and carrier performance trends.
  • Participate in planning activities and cross-functional initiatives supporting business objectives.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage operational risk within established guidelines.
  • Support departmental goals through innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

Required

  • Associate Degree or equivalent level of education/experience
  • 2+ years of experience in any of the following areas: transportation, logistics, supply chain, or customer service
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including spreadsheet capability
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP) and transportation management systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field.
  • Experience managing carrier performance, freight claims, transportation reporting, or transportation operations.
  • Knowledge of Truckload, Less-Than-Truckload, Intermodal, freight payment, and transportation compliance processes.
  • Professional certifications in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management.
