Summary
The TPL Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day transportation execution and ensuring stable logistics operations across Drayage, OTR, Intermodal, and specialized transportation services. This role focuses heavily on operational execution, shipment visibility management, carrier coordination, issue resolution, and customer operational support to ensure timely and accurate transportation service. The position plays a key role in maintaining operational stability by proactively managing transportation risks, urgent shipments, port and rail congestion, detention/demurrage exposure, and customer escalations while supporting continuous operational efficiency improvements.
Responsibilities
Daily Transportation Operations Execution
    • Oversee daily transportation execution including Drayage, OTR, Intermodal, and Heavy Haul shipments
    • Ensure on-time pickup and delivery performance for all assigned shipments
    • Monitor shipment status throughout the entire transportation cycle
    • Proactively identify and resolve operational delays, service failures, and routing issues
    • Coordinate urgent shipment recovery and expedited transportation arrangements when necessary
    • Manage appointment scheduling and delivery coordination with warehouses and customer facilities

Port / Rail / Warehouse Coordination
    • Coordinate container movement with ports, rail ramps, warehouses, and terminals
    • Monitor LFD (Last Free Day) and manage detention/demurrage risk exposure
    • Arrange pre-pull and yard management activities when operationally required
    • Support empty return coordination and equipment availability management
    • Ensure smooth cargo flow during volume surges and operational disruptions

Carrier Dispatch & Capacity Operations
    • Dispatch and coordinate carriers based on daily operational requirements
    • Secure carrier capacity to support customer shipment volumes
    • Communicate operational requirements and scheduling updates to carriers
    • Monitor carrier performance and resolve service-related operational issues
    • Support rate negotiations and urgent spot capacity sourcing when necessary

Customer Operations Support
    • Serve as primary operational contact for assigned customer accounts
    • Provide shipment visibility updates and operational status communication
    • Handle customer escalations, urgent requests, and delivery issues
    • Support customers with transportation planning and operational coordination
    • Ensure operational KPI and customer service expectations are consistently met

Operational Cost Control
    • Monitor transportation costs including FSC, detention/demurrage, chassis split, storage, and accessorial charges
    • Review operational billing accuracy and transportation-related charges
    • Identify operational inefficiencies and support corrective actions
    • Support profitability improvement through operational optimization

Shipment Visibility & Reporting
    • Track daily operational KPIs including On-Time Delivery and Damage-Free performance
    • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational status reports views and QBR reporting

Process Improvement
    • Identify inefficiencies and implement operational improvements
    • Support SOP standardization and best practices

System & Data Management
    • Ensure accurate data entry and system usage (TMS, Genysis)
    • Support EDI integration and system optimization

Team Support & Development
    • Guide and support junior staff
    • Assist in workload distribution and training

Cross-functional Coordination
    • Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, and Finance teams
    • Support bidding, implementation, and account transition

Compensation Range
$94,413 - $105,630 Per Year (Subject to Compensation Study Upon Candidate Selection)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7-10 years of direct experience in Freight Forwarding Operations (Ocean, Air, Drayage) Transportation Management (OTR, Intermodal)
  • 1-3 years experience supervising a team

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8-13 years experience managing a team
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Certification
