Coral Gables, FL โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 24 days ago

Job description

We are designers of storied places.

OBMI is a global master planning, architecture, and interior design practice shaping luxury resorts, boutique hotels, private residences, and mixed-use destinations around the world.

For more than 90 years, we have created places deeply rooted in land, culture, and emotion, balancing imagination, craft, and care.

With studios in Miami, London, Dubai, and KSA, we collaborate globally to deliver holistic, experiential environments across the Middle East, the Caribbean, Latin America, and beyond. Clients see us as trusted advisors, drawn to our belief in thoughtful design, long-term value, and spaces that are both innovative and sustainable.

Our Miami studio is growing, and we are seeking a Lead Designer / Lead Design Architect to join our team. As part of our team, you will help shape the creative direction of high-profile international hospitality and mixed-use projects while mentoring teams and driving design excellence across the studio.

About the role

The Lead Designer / Lead Design Architect guides the creative vision and execution of architectural projects from concept through completion, balancing bold design thinking with practical delivery.

This role plays a key leadership position within the studio, leading conceptual direction, shaping compelling spatial experiences, and translating ideas into cohesive architectural solutions aligned with client vision and OBMI’s standards of excellence.

You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, technical teams, consultants, and studio leadership while mentoring junior and intermediate designers and contributing to proposal development, design storytelling, and client presentations.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the conceptual design vision across hospitality, resort, and mixed-use projects from early sketches through construction documentation
  • Translate client needs, site constraints, and brand narratives into compelling architectural solutions
  • Develop and oversee visual presentations, design packages, and drawing sets that communicate design intent clearly
  • Participate in and lead client meetings, presentations, and design discussions
  • Collaborate with Principals and Studio Directors on design strategy, proposals, and business development initiatives
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams to maintain design continuity across project phases
  • Mentor junior and intermediate team members while contributing to studio-wide design reviews and critiques
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure design intent is preserved throughout BIM workflows and documentation
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for design compliance and assist in resolving technical challenges
  • Participate in site visits and construction administration support to maintain design integrity during implementation
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in sustainability, design technology, and luxury hospitality experiences to elevate OBMI’s global portfolio

Who we’re looking for

We’re seeking a creative and visionary design leader who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings both strong conceptual thinking and technical understanding to project delivery.

You are:

  • Equipped with 12–14 years of professional architectural experience leading projects from concept through completion
  • Holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
  • A licensed or registered architect (AIA, RIBA, ARB, or equivalent preferred)
  • Highly experienced in hospitality, resort, luxury destination, and mixed-use design
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite; Grasshopper, BIM workflows, Bluebeam, and Enscape experience are a plus
  • Skilled in technical detailing, consultant coordination, and sustainable design principles
  • Comfortable leading client presentations and communicating design intent with confidence and clarity
  • Experienced mentoring designers and fostering a collaborative studio culture
  • Business-minded, with exposure to proposal development, client relationship management, and design strategy
  • Adaptable, culturally aware, and able to navigate diverse teams and global project environments
  • Passionate about design excellence, problem-solving, and delivering thoughtful, high-quality work

Why OBMI

You’ll join a globally recognized practice that values creativity, technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability. This role offers the opportunity to lead meaningful international projects, contribute to design strategy and client engagement, and help shape the next generation of designers within a highly collaborative and design-driven studio environment.
