Responsibilities Include:
  • Prepare comprehensive interior design packages, including structural interior design (SID) - interior finishes, materials, colors, and signage integrated into construction documents - and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) packages with furniture plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Develop space planning studies, furniture layouts, finish schedules, and design presentation boards for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Develop plans and design documentation using AutoCAD and/or Revit in support of in-house and A/E design-bid-build and design-build projects.
  • Prepare interior design portions of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), scopes of work, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates, and review third-party interior design submittals for compliance with criteria and codes.
  • Coordinate collateral equipment budgets and procurement documentation in support of project delivery.
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify existing conditions and establish interior design requirements.
  • Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and customer user groups, and collaborate with architectural and engineering disciplines to ensure design coordination and integration with project requirements.
  • Provide independent, timely, and professional interior design support for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development. Facility types include housing; community support facilities (dining halls, clubs, fitness centers, child development centers); medical facilities; education and training facilities; administration buildings; and operations buildings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited program, or a bachelor's degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program with demonstrated interior design experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional interior design experience for facilities, including at least one (1) year working on facilities projects for a Federal Agency.

  • Working knowledge of UFC 3-120-10 (Interior Design), DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy, the International Building Code, the Life Safety Code, and accessibility standards (ABA/ADA).
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices, including UFC 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit, Microsoft Office products, and interior design and presentation software.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and statutory requirements affecting interior design throughout the NAVFAC Southeast area of responsibility (AOR).
  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering disciplines and their impacts on interior design.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.

Work Environment
