Cedarville University invites applicants for the position of Design & CAD Specialist. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site staff position in the Physical Plant - Operations Department within the Business Division. This position reports to the Director of Campus Planning and Design and works 2,080 annual hours.
The Design & CAD Specialist combines technical drafting, facilities documentation, space planning support, and project coordination to support campus planning, renovations, and construction projects. This position serves as a critical link between design intent and project implementation by ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across campus projects. The Design & CAD Specialist also provides field support as needed, updates building and utility drawings as renovations occur, and maintains campus print files.
Essential Functions
CAD & Technical Documentation
  • Develop and maintain accurate CAD drawings for campus buildings, renovations, and infrastructure.
  • Update and manage campus floor plans, space utilization data, and as-built documentation.
  • Organize and manage digital files, drawings, and project records to support long-term campus planning.
  • Produce drawings and layouts to support project planning, budgeting, and execution.

Space Planning & Design Support
  • Assist with space planning efforts for renovations, departmental moves, and campus initiatives.
  • Support the development of layouts that align with campus standards and functional needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director and campus stakeholders to translate project needs into visual plans.

Project Coordination Support
  • Assist in assembling project documentation, including plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Support communication between internal teams and external vendors by providing accurate drawings and project updates.
  • Track drawing revisions and ensure current documents are accessible to project teams.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide copies of prints and related data to individuals on and off campus and support architects and subcontractors as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Qualifications
Required
  • Associate's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in CAD drafting, facilities documentation, architecture, engineering, construction, or related work.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS mapping systems.
  • Ability to read architectural, construction, and facilities drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams/SharePoint.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • Experience with Revit or other Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Experience with space planning, construction documentation, and document management systems.

  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and perform considerable walking, including climbing ladders in multi-story buildings.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including office settings and indoor and outdoor conditions with varying temperatures, dust, and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze data, read small print and blueprints, and inspect construction work.
  • Ability to drive and perform tasks requiring fingering, hearing, grasping, feeling, reaching, crouching, stooping, bending, and climbing.
