Job description

As an Interior Technical Designer on the Perkins&Will team, your skills and passion will come to life through the following responsibilities:

  • Play a crucial role in bringing our design visions to life by providing technical expertise, developing detailed drawings, and ensuring that design concepts are seamlessly translated into built environments while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in interior design, execution and living design.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, interior designers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive design solutions that align with project goals and client expectations.
  • Provide project team coordination for plans, details, specifications, and material selections; ensure design intent is incorporated into the contract documents.
  • In partnership with Senior Interior Designer and Design Principal, coordinate integration of basic systems into the overall project design.
  • Review work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
  • Utilizes Revit, and other relevant software to produce detailed technical drawings, construction documents, and specifications for interior spaces.
  • Understand and use firm digital tools to enhance the project delivery and client needs.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather relevant information and ensure accurate documentation of existing conditions.
  • Oversee the BIM model creation and maintains standards for the model.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and vendors to integrate technical requirements, building codes, and regulatory standards into the design process.
  • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives.
  • Produce, review, and analyze accurate technical and contract documentation for construction of projects to ensure compliance with design intent and quality standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance throughout the construction phase, addressing any issues or challenges that may arise and ensuring the successful execution of the design vision.
  • Participate in construction administration conducts site visits, addresses technical issues, and maintains quality control during construction.
  • During pricing reviews, provides guidance on scope alignment and advice on cost savings.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in interior design and technical documentation to enhance expertise and contribute to continuous improvement.

This position primarily focuses on technical aspects of interior design, with expectation that all team members contribute to various facets of projects as needed. Flexibility and a collaborative spirit are key components of our team dynamic.

Qualifications Education Required

Bachelor or better in Interior Design or related field.
