Job DescriptionOverview

AtkinsRealis is one of Canada's largest private-sector nuclear engineering organizations. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world for more than 60 years and are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology.

Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Manager is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of assigned long lead equipment and component scopes within the MONARK-D program.

The Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of long lead components through all phases of the project lifecycle, including preliminary design, detailed design, procurement, fabrication, inspection, transportation, construction planning, installation readiness, and turnover to site construction teams.

The role requires close integration across Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Construction, Quality, and Supplier organizations to ensure long lead equipment is delivered safely, compliantly, and in alignment with program schedule and construction needs.

The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring all technical, commercial, schedule, quality, and execution interfaces are effectively managed and that procurement and manufacturing activities remain aligned with overall program objectives and critical construction milestones.

Your role

Program Delivery and Leadership:

  • Lead assigned long lead equipment and component scopes from concept and design through procurement, fabrication, delivery, and construction readiness.
  • Develop and maintain integrated execution plans that align engineering, procurement, manufacturing, transportation, and site requirements.
  • Accountable for achieving scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and contractual objectives for assigned equipment packages.
  • Ensure readiness of assigned equipment packages to support construction and site installation milestones.

Engineering Integration:

  • Coordinate preliminary design, detailed design, specification development, and technical review activities for assigned equipment.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules and support procurement and manufacturing timelines.
  • Manage design interfaces between equipment suppliers, engineering organizations, and other plant systems.
  • Coordinate resolution of technical issues affecting equipment design, procurement, manufacturing, or installation.

Procurement and Supplier Management:

  • Support procurement strategy development and supplier selection activities.
  • Manage supplier performance throughout execution to ensure contractual obligations, quality requirements, and delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Lead supplier progress reviews and maintain visibility of manufacturing schedules, key risks, and recovery plans.
  • Support commercial negotiations, contract administration activities, claims avoidance, and change management.

Fabrication and Manufacturing Oversight:

  • Monitor fabrication and manufacturing activities through regular engagement with suppliers.
  • Ensure manufacturing progress aligns with integrated project schedules and critical path requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, surveillance activities, quality documentation reviews, and manufacturing readiness assessments.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting manufacturing performance, material availability, or production schedules.

Construction and Installation Readiness:

  • Coordinate with construction and site teams to ensure equipment delivery supports construction sequencing and installation requirements.
  • Ensure transportation, preservation, storage, handling, and installation requirements are defined and incorporated into project plans.
  • Support constructability reviews and installation planning activities throughout project development.
  • Ensure turnover packages and equipment documentation are complete and available to support site execution.

Project Controls and Risk Management:

  • Develop and maintain scope, schedule, cost, and performance baselines for assigned equipment packages.
  • Monitor progress against key milestones and identify variances, trends, and emerging risks.
  • Lead recovery planning and corrective actions when schedule or cost performance deviates from targets.
  • Ensure risks, assumptions, issues, and opportunities are actively managed and escalated through established governance processes.
  • Support forecasting, earned value reporting, and executive-level progress reporting.

Interface Management:

  • Serve as the primary integration point between Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Quality, Licensing, and external suppliers for assigned scopes.
  • Manage key interfaces and dependencies affecting equipment delivery and installation readiness.
  • Ensure cross-functional teams remain aligned on priorities, milestones, deliverables, and action plans.
  • Facilitate resolution of interface issues that may impact program objectives or construction schedules.
About you
  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Minimum 8 years of project management experience in large-scale engineering, infrastructure, energy, nuclear, or industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing major equipment packages or long lead components through design, procurement, fabrication, and installation phases.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering organizations and external suppliers.
  • Experience managing integrated schedules, critical path activities, forecasting, and recovery planning.
  • Experience with supplier oversight, contract management, and manufacturing progress monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle delivery, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, change control, and performance reporting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder and interface relationships across multiple organizations.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated environments is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier facilities, fabrication shops, and project sites as required.
