Our teams specialize in designing, integrating, and commissioning complex operational technologies including control systems, communications networks, and safety-critical infrastructure.
We are committed to innovation and continuous improvement, and we are looking for a Project Engineer to join our team and drive our complex multidisciplinary projects to success.
Position Summary:
As a Project Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of cutting-edge work providing technical leadership and oversight for assigned work packages, and ensuring integrated, compliant, and operable solutions across multiple technical disciplines.
This role combines system engineering, technical governance, design coordination, integration, interface management, commissioning supervision, and quality assurance, along with vendor and resource coordination. The Project Engineer is accountable for directing, reviewing, and approving work performed by internal teams and external suppliers and works closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful project and timely project delivery.
This role suits an individual with strong multidisciplinary experience in industrial automation, rail and transit systems, with the ability to balance system-level thinking and detailed technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Scope Definition, System Engineering & Planning
  • Collaborate with Solutions Architects, Project Manager, and Subject Matter Experts to define the project technical scope, select design solutions, engineering execution Strategy
  • Ensure system-level requirements are properly allocated to subsystems and traceable through design, verification, and validation activities.
  • Provide engineering leadership for integrated solutions covering automation, communications, electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems.
Coordination & Interface Management
  • Interface with other disciplines. Builds and maintains positive relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Ensure that system level requirements and all subsystem level interfaces are defined and managed
  • Supervise internal and external resources performing detailed design, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Provides oversight, direction, review and approval for technical documents: statements of work, specifications, datasheets, drawings, test plans, interface control documents etc.
  • Ensure deliverables are compliant with project standards, regulatory obligations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Support engineering governance processes including configuration control, document management, and quality assurance.
System Integration and Commissioning Supervision
  • Oversee planning and execution of system integration, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
  • Approve FAT/SAT procedures and evidence packs
  • Supervise functional testing, performance validation, and system readiness for operational use.
  • Support operator training, operational readiness reviews, and final system handover.
Monitoring & Control
  • Track progress against schedule, milestone and deliverables
  • Identify and resolve technical, logistical, and integration issues during design, procurement, installation, and commissioning
Report technical progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to Project and Engineering Managers.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
  • Engineering degree (B.Sc./B.A.Sc. or equivalent)
  • 5-10+ years of experience in a Project Engineering, System Engineering, Work Package Leader, role
  • Professional Engineering designation (PEO preferred or eligible for registration in Ontario)
  • Experience in system integration and commissioning in industrial automation, transportation, or similar sectors.
  • Proven experience working with IEC 15288 Systems Engineering framework.
  • Experience working with standards such as Cenelec, IEC, ULC, CSA, Electrical Code, etc.
  • Experience  with PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms
  • Experience integrating or coordinating operational systems commonly used in rail, transit, or large infrastructure environments, including familiarity with Communication backbone networks, CCTV and video surveillance systems, Passenger Announcement and Public Address systems, Passenger Assistance Intercom systems, Passenger Information, Passenger Visual Information Systems, Access Control Systems, Subway or tunnel ventilation systems, Emergency Trip Systems, Distributed Antenna Systems, and Voice and Data Radio Communication Systems
  • Understanding of PMI standards and processes
  • Familiarity with interface management and requirements tracking.
  • Proven ability to oversee testing and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of quality management principles and documentation practices.
  • Strong coordination, leadership, communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, DNP3.0, IEC 61850)
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) for reviewing design packages.
  • Experience in IT, cybersecurity, and cybersecurity for control systems (IEC 62443) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to review and approve commissioning documentation, operator training materials, etc.
  • Direct and review preparation of engineering deliverables such as instrument lists, I/O and cable schedules, termination diagrams, hook-up and layout drawings, loop diagrams, and test procedures.
  • Understanding of functional safety and quality assurance frameworks.
