Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Amazon Web Services is looking for an experienced software development engineer to help define and build the future of cloud computing

This position is a developer role with an EC2 VPC team based in Arlington, Virginia.
A majority of our team has been together for more than two years, and we have developed a strong sense of team trust during that time. We value work life harmony, and support core working hours from 10am to 4pm Eastern.

Some of the team starts early and the rest stay later. Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members and encourage curiosity. We are a team of mostly mid-level engineers who enjoy helping junior engineers grow through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews.

We are looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated and reliable; someone who will help us build on the team culture we have been cultivating.
This position involves on-call responsibilities typically for two weeks every 2-3 months. The first week is primary and the second week is secondary on-call. We don't like to get paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure our systems are fault tolerant

When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause to prevent pages for the same issues twice.
Key job responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable systems for AWS VPC zonal interface management, ensuring high availability and performance across multiple availability zones.
Build and optimize APIs and services that enable customers to create, configure, and manage network interfaces within VPC environments.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including network engineers, product managers, and senior engineers to define technical requirements and deliver customer-focused solutions.
Write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive unit and integration tests, participating in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
Troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues, analyze performance bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve system reliability and latency.
Contribute to operational excellence by participating in on-call rotations, creating runbooks, and implementing monitoring and alerting solutions.
Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing sessions.
Drive technical initiatives from design through deployment, making sound architectural decisions that balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability.
Stay current with AWS networking technologies and industry best practices, applying learnings to improve team processes and technical solutions.
About the team
Join our team engineering core software for the massive AWS cloud. We're software engineers and systems development engineers delivering EC2 network virtualization systems. Our engineers work in Java, Scala, and automation languages like Ruby and Python

Our services range from metering billions of network records per hour to delivering encrypted VPN connections and large-scale web services enabling customers to reconfigure networks on demand. We're delivering "API defined networks" at scale. Learn more: https://aws.amazon.com/vpc/

We're engaged in all parts of the software development lifecycle, from defining to testing new features. We balance delighting customers with building high-quality software without sacrificing either.
