Job description

Are you an architect seeking a different kind of career, full of fast-paced, creative design across a wide variety of project types? Would you like to work directly with the craftsmen who build your designs? Ferguson Construction has a rare opportunity for you to develop as an architect.

This is an on-site position, and can be based in any 1 of our 4 regional offices located in Sidney, Columbus, Dayton, or Indianapolis.

Ferguson Construction Company is seeking to add a Design Architect to our internal, interdisciplinary design team. We are a premier Design-Build contractor with regional offices in Sidney, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio, as well as in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ferguson designs and constructs large and small projects in many sectors: industrial, commercial, non-profit, educational, recreational, retail, religious, and healthcare.

The company has been in business for more than 100 years! Ferguson has been dedicated to excellence and delivering exceptional quality and customer service since 1920. We believe in crafting spaces that enrich lives, enhance workplaces, and celebrate communities. We pride ourselves on delivering transparency from concept to completion, and continuously finding better ways to build greater efficiency, certainty, and value into every project. Ferguson empowers employees to grow throughout the design-build process. The company encourages cross-training and interaction with our in-house estimating, operations, quality control, and safety staff. Our staff designs and develops over $125 MM worth of design-build work annually.

This position will lead the design-build process from conception to completion. This process is fast-paced, cooperative, and interactive. Design-Build takes the adversarial relationship between designers and contractors and throws it out the window. RFIs and ASIs are now internal conversations with your fellow Ferguson employees. Drawings are done for construction, not for defending errors and omissions in litigation. Project timelines are quick, usually six to twelve months from first contact to project completion.

This position is for an ambitious person willing to grow and eventually lead. This position will lead the building design process from conceptual design development and code analysis, through construction document creation, permit submission, and construction support. Together with our business development staff, you will meet with our customers to understand their needs and design a unique, functional, and pleasing space for their individual needs. This position will mentor our talented young staff and help support our commitment to co-ops in our design department.

Responsibilities:

  • Functioning as part of a small to medium-sized design department, the position will both manage and take a variety of large and small projects in the industrial, commercial, non-profit, educational, recreational, retail, religious, and healthcare buildings from conceptual design through final design and detailing.
  • Complete conceptual designs for new builds, additions, and renovations - while considering cost and constructability issues.
  • Work with design staff to detail and assemble construction documents in Revit
  • Help to develop drawing standards and best practices.
  • Work with a team to prepare and review design drawings
  • Submit for permits and answer plan corrections.
  • Lead and mentor existing designers and Co-op students from area universities to advance their skills and prepare them for full-time employment.
  • Collaborate with outside consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues such as our Director of Design, Architectural and Civil Designers, Business Development professionals, Estimators, Project Managers, Site Superintendents, and Crew Leaders

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a professional degree
  • Must be a Registered architect with the ability to be registered in Ohio and Indiana
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience, with 10+ years preferred.
  • Position will require problem-solving skills, with an understanding of construction, as well as meeting and working with our clients to meet their needs
  • Proficient and well-versed in Revit with knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Organized with great communication skills
  • Quality, deadline, and detail-oriented, with a customer focus

**Ferguson Construction is an Equal Opportunity Employer with a full benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision, 401k, and Life, as well as profit sharing and bonuses.
