JOB DESCRIPTION
- FULL TIME

Oral Roberts University Institute of Design, Experience and Art (IDEA) invites applications for promotion-track Assistant/Associate Professor position for one of three design related areas: 3D animation, graphic design or visual communication-photography. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Ideal candidate must have demonstrated success in one of these areas:

  • 3D Modeling: Experience with 3D modeling, gaming, narrative storytelling and animated communication while demonstrating sensitivity to aesthetics, typography and design. Additionally, the candidate should have an awareness of and an enthusiasm for growing into the emergent field of XR (extended reality) design and development. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary development with other academic units, including Worship, Theatre, Dance, Film and Computer Science.
  • Design: Experience in graphic or communication design, which may include typography, interactive design & development, branding, narrative and time-based media, publication design, design research, UI/UX, community-based design, portfolio development, professional practices, or internship supervision. Ideal candidates will successfully demonstrate sensitivity to aesthetics, typography and design.
  • Visual Communication and Photography: Candidate will have professional photographic and visual design experience that integrates contemporary professional practice with specific emphasis on emerging technologies (AI and LLMs) and interdisciplinary practices. Additionally, the candidate should have an awareness of and an enthusiasm for growing into the collaborative, interdisciplinary design environment, professional practice and design studio and project management.
DUTIES

ORU Faculty teach broadly in the curricula of their subjects, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of position will include the undergraduate level development and teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline, resulting in 3-3 load of six-contact hour per week studio courses.

Successful hires will also be responsible for development of courses in their area(s) of specialization, as well as be responsible for producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for promotion. The successful candidate will teach critical thinking, problem solving, contemporary theory and emerging concepts in contemporary visual design practice.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal graduate degree preferred (MFA, PhD), or equivalent degree from an accredited institution, or significant sustained industry experience:
    • Game development and/or virtual production and/or virtual reality, modeling and lighting animation and film disciplines.
    • Graphic design or related field, including but not limited to branding, environmental design, digital design, motion design, or digital product design.
    • Visual Communication or Photography, visual and communication related areas of study, including digital or film, studio and commercial, marketing or social media.
  • Evidence of excellent operational skills in industry standard practices necessary to instruct undergraduate students in one of the referenced subdisciplines.
  • Demonstrated professional or research practice in referenced subdisciplines.
  • Experience with using and teaching production equipment, such as software, printers, computer-controlled machines, screens or cameras.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate will have professional skills and experience in professional practices related to subdiscipline.
  • Teaching experience in adjacent areas such as art history, digital fabrication or packaging and environmental design.
  • Evidence of student mentorship, i.e. professional placement or graduate school applications.
