Intensive English Program - Program Educator position - Part-Time
The mission of the University of Miami Intensive English Program is to prepare international students to enter a university in the U.S. by providing instruction in English language and academic study skills. The IEP also helps its international students adapt to university life and American culture. The program facilitates intercultural understanding, offers support and guidance related to non-academic issues, and builds ease and confidence in a new culture.
Selected candidates will follow curriculum provided by the department; develop appropriate materials, exercises, and tests for assigned classes; demonstrate the ability to adapt to new techniques and situations required by the teaching assignment; attend all required meetings; assess students' performance; provide two office hours per week for consultation with students; use the language lab as an effective tool for language learning; meet responsibilities and deadlines for recording attendance, grades, sponsor reports, etc.; provide evaluations, recommendations and any other input requested regarding student performance.
Qualifications and Experience
Master's Degree in TESL, or related field with two years teaching experience in an academic ESL program and experience living or teaching overseas.
Computer skills and familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Canvas and other databases/systems used by the program.
Focus on student services, teamwork and appreciation of other cultures.
