What You Will Be Doing

As an ITS Project Manager, this role will serve as the technical and project lead for mid‑ to large‑scale Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects. This hybrid position may be based in any one of our office locations.

Responsibilities include leading the planning, design, and implementation of advanced ITS infrastructure such as communications networks, system integration, transit signal priority, and connected corridor technologies. This position plays a strategic role in supporting regional growth, strengthening client relationships, and contributing to pursuit and capture efforts within our municipal and transit markets.

  • Serving as Lead Engineer and Project Manager on mid‑ to large‑scale ITS projects
  • Providing specialized technical expertise in ITS planning, design, and system integration
  • Leading development of technical studies, detailed design packages, and implementation strategies
  • Presenting complex technical solutions and recommendations to state, municipal, and transit clients
  • Performing quality control reviews and approving technical work prepared by project teams
  • Developing project scopes, schedules, engineering budgets, and resource plans
  • Coordinating across multidisciplinary teams including traffic, roadway, rail, and communications
  • Preparing and contributing to technical proposals, fee estimates, and pursuit strategies
  • Supporting business development efforts and maintaining strong client relationships with state, municipal, and transit agencies
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable state, local, and federal transportation standards

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of relevant traffic engineering and/or ITS experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of hire
  • Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects across the full project lifecycle
  • Direct experience supporting state or county transportation agencies, and/or transit agencies
  • Experience with BRT and rail technology systems
  • Demonstrated success in business development, municipal client engagement, and pursuit leadership
  • Technical experience in one or more of the following:
    • Fiber optic communications detailed design
    • CCTV Camera Systems
    • Dynamic Message Signs
    • Vehicle Detection Systems
    • BRT and Rail technology systems
    • System integration
    • Weather monitoring systems
    • Variable Speed Limit Systems
    • Dynamic Lane Management Systems
    • Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems
    • Transit signal priority
    • Tolling systems
    • ATMS Software
  • Experience with delivering complex preliminary and final design packages including plans, specifications, and cost estimate
  • Experience coordinating with MPOs, transit agencies, and regional planning organizations
  • Active engagement in relevant professional organizations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Bolton & Menk will currently not be providing visa sponsorship or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $160,000 depending on years of experience and credentials
