Job description

Reporting to the Manager, Intellectual Property, this IP Paralegal primarily supports IP docketing and will assist with patent prosecution.ย  This position may also have responsibilities in areas that include trademarks, copyrights, IP litigation, IP licensing, and projects related to the establishment and maintenance of the IP team's infrastructure.ย ย This position will work closely with the Manager, Intellectual Property and provide support in all facets of intellectual property management.ย ย 

The Paralegal, Intellectual Property position will typically be onsite in Redwood City, CA, 3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain docketing system for patents and trademarks
  • Maintain electronic US and foreign patent files
  • Generate and distribute monthly docket reports
  • Assist with ensuring all patent and trademark deadlines are met by coordinating with attorneys, colleagues, foreign associates and outside counsel
  • Correspond regularly with foreign associates and outside counsel relating to all patent prosecution matters
  • Assist with preparation and filing of patent applications and various documents related to patent prosecution, including declarations and assignments, information disclosure statements
  • Assist with the management of references cited in information disclosure statements across large family/portfolios

Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Technical Proficiencies:

  • Experience using a patent docketing system and familiarity with the USPTO electronic filing system is required
  • Experience with patent prosecution, including knowledge of Patent and Trademark (PTO) rules and procedures
  • Strong skills in organization, attention to detail, and analytical abilities are required
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, efficiently, and collaboratively in accordance with deadlines
  • This candidate will have a strong drive to perform well, and is looking to grow a career as a senior paralegal, and perhaps eventually IP operations

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 2-3+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience handling patent filing and docketing matters, experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies is a bonus but not required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Paralegal certification and California notary certification is a plus

The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this headquarters-based position is $100,000-$135,000; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on legitimate considerations, including geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education.
