What is an integrations manager?

An Integrations Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and managing the process of connecting different software systems, platforms, or applications within an organization. Their main goal is to ensure that disparate systems work together seamlessly, facilitating efficient data flow and business processes. They often coordinate with IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to plan, implement, and troubleshoot integrations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to communicate across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an integrations manager?

To thrive as an Integrations Manager, you need a solid understanding of systems integration, API management, and project management, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms like MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or Microsoft Azure, as well as certifications in relevant technologies, is often required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure seamless technology integrations, minimize disruptions, and drive successful collaboration across technical and business teams.

What are some common challenges faced by an integrations manager when coordinating cross-departmental projects?

As an Integrations Manager, one of the main challenges is aligning the priorities and timelines of multiple departments, such as IT, product, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of systems or platforms. Navigating different communication styles and technical expertise levels can require strong interpersonal and project management skills. Additionally, managing unexpected technical issues or data compatibility problems often requires creative problem-solving and the ability to adapt quickly to changes. Successful Integrations Managers proactively address these challenges by establishing clear communication channels, setting realistic expectations, and fostering collaborative relationships across teams.

The Workday Integrations, Automation & Technical Lead owns the design, build, and ongoing health of Workday integrations and automations across Finance and HR. This role pairs hands-on technical work - integrations, custom reports, business processes, and security - with cross-functional coordination, partnering closely with Finance, HR, and Risk to deliver compliant, efficient, and well-documented solutions. The Lead also champions emerging automation and AI tools (such as Claude) by enabling and training internal staff, and provides technical support for the CloudPay-Workday implementation effort.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Workday integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, and web services), ensuring reliable and secure data exchange across systems.
  • Develop and maintain custom Workday reports - including advanced, matrix, and composite reports - to meet evolving Finance and HR reporting needs.
  • Administer Workday security by assigning, auditing, and regularly reviewing role-based permissions to safeguard data integrity and enforce least-privilege access.
  • Configure, optimize, and maintain Workday business processes and condition rules to support efficient, compliant workflows.
  • Monitor and triage help desk tickets related to Workday configuration, resolving issues promptly and identifying recurring trends for proactive remediation.
  • Partner with Finance and HR to scope, prioritize, and deliver automation and AI solutions that streamline manual processes.
  • Serve as a cross-functional liaison between Finance and HR, coordinating Workday configuration efforts and aligning processes across both functions.
  • Develop and deliver training and enablement on automation and AI tools (such as Claude), building internal capability and driving staff adoption.
  • Provide technical and functional support for current and upcoming CloudPay-Workday implementations, from planning through go-live and stabilization.
  • Maintain a comprehensive ClickUp project portfolio with detailed, up-to-date status notes to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Proactively communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to Finance and HR stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing communication with the Risk function to ensure projects adhere to firm policy and compliance requirements.
  • Provide general Workday troubleshooting and escalated support across modules to maintain system stability and user productivity.
  • Participate in Finance and HR meetings to identify and champion new opportunities for automation and process efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, expanding expertise into Workday areas beyond integrations to support broader team needs.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Workday integrations: Proven experience designing, building, and troubleshooting Workday integrations using EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, and REST/SOAP web services.
  • Custom reporting: Proficiency creating and maintaining advanced, matrix, and composite reports and calculated fields for Finance and HR.
  • Security administration: Hands-on experience configuring Workday security groups and domain/business process policies and conducting regular access reviews aligned to least-privilege principles.
  • Business process configuration: Demonstrated ability to build, edit, and optimize Workday business processes and condition rules.
  • Issue resolution: Experience monitoring and triaging configuration tickets, with strong root-cause analysis and troubleshooting skills across Workday modules.
  • Automation & AI enablement: Experience scoping and delivering automation/AI solutions and training non-technical staff on tools such as Claude.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Strong communication skills and a track record of partnering across Finance, HR, and Risk, including proactive status reporting and policy/compliance coordination.
  • Implementation support: Experience supporting payroll or third-party system implementations (CloudPay-Workday or comparable) from planning through go-live and stabilization.
  • Project tracking & documentation: Proficiency maintaining detailed project status and documentation in ClickUp or a similar work-management tool.
  • Adaptability & learning: A continuous-improvement mindset and willingness to learn Workday areas beyond integrations to support broader team needs.
  • Availability: Able to work remotely, with availability for occasional in-office work and required meetings outside normal business hours.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting payroll integrations, particularly CloudPay-Workday, or comparable third-party payroll/vendor integrations.
  • Familiarity with automation and AI tools (such as Claude) and experience enabling or training non-technical staff to use them.
  • Experience working within a governance/compliance framework and partnering with a Risk or internal controls function.
  • Experience managing work and project status in ClickUp or a similar work-management tool.
  • Exposure to professional services, accounting, or financial services environments.
  • Workday Pro certification(s) in Integrations, Reporting, or related tracks.
