SAIC is seeking aHardware Engineer with expertise in fiber optics for shipboard Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. This program will be part of a transformative venture, driving the future of next generation afloat mission effectiveness through the integration ofcutting-edge commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systemsand network technologies using fiber-optic infrastructure.
Job Duties:
- Develop, update and maintain engineering documents.
- Stage 4 and 5 test procedures for integrated C5ISR and COTS systems.
- Interface control documents, cable block diagram, fiber optic cable topology, and wiring diagrams specific to fiber optic cables, connectors and back shells.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years or more relevant experience hardware engineering (focused on fiber optics infrastructure); BS degree maybe offset with additional four (4) years relevant experience.
- Experience designing, installing, or maintainingfiber optic networks, including integration with modernCOTS systems, components, fiber optic cables, coaxial, cat 5/6 cables and fiber cable termination and splicing using appropriate tools.
Required Security Clearance:
- Must have an active secret clearance on first day of employment.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Fiber Optic Certification,(e.g., ETA Certified Fiber Optic Technician [CFOT], FOA Certification, or equivalent).
- Familiarity withCOTS communication systemsthat leverage fiber optic infrastructure, including:
- Cisco routers and switches(e.g., Catalyst or Nexus models).
- Juniper networking equipment.
- Media convertersfor fiber-to-copper integration.
- Network Interface Cards (NICs)supporting fiber.
- Patch panelsand optical splitter equipment.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite and Autocad.
- Experience with fiber optics test equipment (eg LED and Laser Light sources, power meters, optical time domain reflectometer, optical loss test set, optical video inspection system, optical leak detector).
- Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) IA Level II - Security+ certification, or CSSIP or equivalent or willing to obtain within 180 days of onboarding.
Desired Technical Experience (Key Systems and Shipboard Experience):
Shipboard C5ISR Systems:
- Navigation: Integrated Bridge System, Gyrocompass (e.g., WSN-7).
- Radar: Surface Search Radars (e.g., AN/SPY-6, SPS-series).
- Communications: UHF, HF, VHF Marine Radios; Shipboard Communication Cabinets; EHF Communications.
- Networking: NIPRNET, SIPRNET, SI LANs.
- Safety: Interior Alarms and Safety Systems.
- Positioning: GPS, Sonar Mission Systems, Fathometer, and Depth Sounding Devices.
COTS systemsassociated with fiber optics:
- Cisco and Juniper Networking Equipment(e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, access points).
- Fiber Patch Panels, couplers, splitters, and distribution frames.
- Optical adaptersandfiber transceiversfor high data-rate communications (e.g., SFP/SFP+).
- Media convertersand Ethernet-over-fiber solutions.
- Infrastructure: Fiber Patch Panels, Distribution Frames, Couplers, and Splitters.
