Job description

Abbott is a global healthcare leader that helps people live more fully at all stages of life. Our portfolio of life-changing technologies spans the spectrum of healthcare, with leading businesses and products in diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic medicines. Our 115,000 colleagues serve people in more than 160 countries.JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We are seeking a talented and versatile IC designer to be a part of our Integrated Circuit Development organization. Our team designs ultra-low power mixed-signal IC's for use in Abbott's implantable pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac monitors and neuro-stimulation devices. These devices save lives and provide therapy for serious medical conditions.

The successful person in this role will have a strong mastery of analog and mixed-signal IC design, with breadth and depth of knowledge across digital and analog design. This position requires consideration of clinical as well as practical design constraints and opportunities that extend well outside the design of the IC's themselves

In this role, the engineer will work closely with other members of the Analog and Digital Design groups, and other functions such as Clinical, Electrical Systems Engineering, Firmware Development, ATE, and Manufacturing. The engineer will play a key role in growing our analog mixed-signal design capabilities, and act as a design lead on IC design projects.

Required Skills:
- Successful experience as IC project lead

- Demonstrated ability to define micro-architecture specifications for IC's and IC subsystems given broad performance requirements

- Experience with high-level modeling (e.g. Matlab) of mixed-signal systems

- Mastery of circuit and block-level analog IC design

- Ability to guide IC top-level integration and drive functional and physical verification

- Experience with PLL's, data converters, and analog signal processing

- Design expertise for building blocks such as op amps, bias generators, bandgap references, regulators, switched capacitor circuits, etc.

- Excellent design, simulation and debug skills

- Experience with Cadence IC design tools is required

- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

- Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional development projects

- Interest and ability to provide mentorship to other designers
- Demonstrated ability to clearly document design work and present and explain design choices

- Great analytical skills and a desire to delve deeply into technical challenges

- A strong interest in contributing to integrated circuits that save people's lives

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with weak inversion (subthreshold) and/or ultra low-power analog IC design is a plus
- Digital design experience using Verilog
- Experience with discrete electronics design (BJT, MOS, Power Devices, etc.)

Education and Experience Requirements:

MSEE or equivalent required
At least 10 years industry experience in IC design

Other Possible Site Locations: Sylmar, Plano/Dallas, Scottsdale, Minneapolis

The base pay for this position is
