Job description

Position Summary:
Jax Spine and Pain Center is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Insurance Verification Coordinator to join our Revenue Cycle team. This role is responsible for verifying patients' insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorization requirements prior to appointments and procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, knowledgeable of commercial and government insurance plans, and committed to ensuring a seamless patient experience while minimizing reimbursement delays.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage, and plan limitations prior to scheduled appointments and procedures.
  • Determine patient financial responsibility, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Obtain and document required referrals and prior authorization requirements.
  • Accurately update insurance information within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate insurance coverage and financial responsibility to patients in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Collaborate with scheduling, front desk, clinical staff, and revenue cycle teams to resolve insurance-related issues.
  • Identify and resolve eligibility discrepancies before the patient's visit.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of verification activities and payer communications.
  • Stay current on payer guidelines, insurance policies, and regulatory changes.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of insurance verification, medical scheduling, patient access, or revenue cycle experience preferred.
  • Experience verifying commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, and managed care insurance plans preferred.
  • Knowledge of prior authorization and referral requirements.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in pain management, orthopedic, spine, surgery, or other specialty medical practices.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and medical terminology.
  • Experience working with multiple insurance carriers and payer portals.
